Richard Armitage: ‘Fans should be suspicious of my Missing You character’

As a devoted admirer of Richard Armitage‘s exceptional acting skills, it is truly captivating to witness him delve into yet another intricate character in “Missing You.” His ability to breathe life into complex characters and keep audiences on the edge of their seats is nothing short of mesmerizing.

Richard Armitage is slated to take center stage in his fourth Harlan Coben adaptation. Over the years, he’s demonstrated a wide-ranging acting prowess through roles in shows such as The Stranger, Stay Close, and Fool Me Once.

In the upcoming series “Missing You,” Armitage’s character may seem trustworthy, but viewers are encouraged to maintain a healthy dose of skepticism towards him.

He mentioned: “One might find Stagger questionable. The intrigue in handling such characters lies in the fact that each one harbors a hidden storyline, an aspect of mystery they must cling to.

It seems that Stagger has been around for 11 years. He and Clint, portrayed by Lenny Henry, rose through the ranks together in the force.

In the initial episode, as you become aware of his situation and notice its impact on his daughter, who’s currently associated with Stagger, it’s clear that something unusual is taking place.

I can’t explain it directly, but it has the familiar feeling of a story where tension gradually increases like air in a pressure cooker.

The main plot of the series centres on Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar), who finds her ex-fiancé on a dating app 11 years after he disappeared one day.

Upon his return, it is Kat who unearths further details regarding her father’s assassination. Simultaneously, she stumbles upon old hidden truths from the past during this investigation.

Given my past professional relationship with Kat’s father, Clint, I can confidently express that Ellis has played an integral role in Kat’s life. This is particularly evident in their shared work experiences and the role Ellis has filled as a mentor or guiding influence for her.

But what appealed to Armitage specifically about this new role?

He noted: “It would be quite challenging to respond to that question without giving too much away. To clarify, I’ve never portrayed a police officer on screen, but the idea of assuming a position of authority intrigued me. Additionally, understanding the direction of the narrative was an appealing aspect as well.

As a cinephile, I couldn’t help but feel intrigued by the notion of the deep-seated secrets this character harbors. I had anticipated that the ‘pressure cooker’ of mystery would unravel into an engaging and thrilling tale.

Previously, Armitage pointed out that the structure of Missing You distinguishes it from the earlier Harlan Coben series he has worked on.

Regarding how the narrative progresses, he explained to Netflix: “One factor that sets it apart is the lack of an intricate sub-plot centered around another character.

The narrative weaves together two distinct plotlines, yet it’s skillfully managed by a single character, Kat. As a result, the progression of events seems more swift due to her handling multiple aspects.
