Richard Curtis’s That Christmas, starring Jodie Whittaker, confirms release date

As a dedicated fan with a heart for all things festive and a soft spot for Richard Curtis’ enchanting narratives, I can hardly contain my excitement! Being a self-proclaimed connoisseur of Christmas movies, I have eagerly anticipated this magical collaboration between Curtis and Netflix. The fact that the legendary Ed Sheeran has contributed an original song to the soundtrack only adds to the anticipation.

With the thrilling announcement that Ed Sheeran has written and recorded an exclusive track for Netflix’s approaching holiday film titled “That Christmas,” Netflix has additionally shared when fans can enjoy the movie!

The film, inspired by the delightful series of children’s books written by Richard Curtis, features Brian Cox portraying Santa Claus, with Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, and Bill Nighy as inhabitants of a quaint coastal town. However, their peaceful lives are disrupted during one festive season.

All the festive action will debut globally on Netflix on Friday 6th December!

According to the summary, This Christmas presents interconnected stories that explore themes such as family bonds, friendships, romance, solitude, and even Santa Claus committing an error, alongside countless turkeys!

In his career, Curtis has become famous for movies like Love Actually, Notting Hill, and most recently, Genie. However, This Christmas represents his debut in the world of animation projects.

Upon the release of the movie, Curtis expressed: “This journey has been an incredible experience, marking my debut in animation. It’s been thrilling to watch the world I envisioned take shape beyond anything I could have imagined – a world inhabited by a fantastic ensemble of actors, whose voices have transformed into such vibrant and amusing characters.”

In addition to Cox, Whittaker, Shaw, and Nighy, the cast also features Lolly Adefope, Alex Macqueen, Katherine Parkinson, Sindhu Vee, and India Brown.

As part of this talented ensemble, I’m joined by Zazie Hayhurst, Sienna Sayer, Jack Wisniewski, Rosie Cavaliero, Paul Kaye, Guz Khan, and Andy Nyman. Additionally, Kuhu Agarwal, Bronte Smith, Freddie Spry, Ava Talbot, and Rhys Darby complete our remarkable cast.
