After battling a foe who has been present since its debut, “Rick and Morty” has now concluded the fight in its eighth season, potentially paving the way for future explorations. This summer, catch the latest episodes of “Rick and Morty” Season 8 as they air weekly on Adult Swim, promising a return to the hilarious escapades that captivated viewers during the first seven seasons. Moreover, this new season serves as an opportunity for the long-running series to embark upon a fresh chapter in its storyline, signaling the beginning of a new era.
In the eighth season of “Rick and Morty,” Space Beth took center stage in an episode dedicated to her character for the first time in a while. This episode also marked the resolution of a long-standing issue with the Gromflomites, an insectoid race that had been causing Rick trouble since the show’s inception. Despite numerous instances where Rick appeared to eliminate them, they have persistently been a problem. However, in this season, it appears that they have finally been put to rest, thanks to a peace agreement signed at the end of the episode.
Rick and Morty Defeats the New Galactic Federation
In “Valkyrick,” the second episode of Season 8 for Rick and Morty, Space Beth is a member of the Defiance rebellion group who tries to assassinate the Gromflomite Queen. However, she learns that someone has previously killed the queen with the intention of blaming the Defiance. It turns out that a Gromflomite scientist was responsible for the murder and had replaced the queen with a robot to spread a fungus among the Gromflomites, transforming them into a horde of colossal monsters. To combat this threat, Rick and Space Beth join forces with the Gromflomites against the scientist and aim to halt the spread of the fungus.
Following an exploration of a cosmic cavern, Space Beth and her companions successfully overpowered the scientist and rescued the Gromflomites from impending doom. Consequently, Defiance entered into a truce with the Gromflomites, bringing an end to the conflict between the Federation’s factions and the rebels that had persisted for eight long seasons. Yet, it remains possible that this peace accord could be undone in a future episode, much like previous instances of the Gromflomites being vanquished. However, there seems to be a unique sense of finality about this resolution this time around.
Why Does This Matter?
This time, the vibe seems unique. Unlike previous episodes, “Rick and Morty” hints at this change when the Gromflomite General acknowledges that this isn’t a routine occurrence, perhaps never to happen again. It appears that the plot is progressing significantly, particularly in the development of Space Beth and Rick’s relationship. In the course of their battle, they grow closer as father and daughter, suggesting a new phase in the series. This growth could pave the way for other persistent threats to emerge in the future.
As I watch, it’s challenging not to picture that the easy-to-handle adversaries we’ve seen before in Rick and Morty, including the Gromflomites who even had a leading role in the anime series, might be phased out. Yet, this could also mark the beginning of fresh dangers on the horizon. With Adult Swim renewing the animated series for Season 12, there’s a wealth of chances to bring forth innovative concepts suitable for this new era. Undeniably, things are evolving, and this episode hints at significant developments in store.
