The much-anticipated eighth season of “Rick and Morty” will air on Adult Swim this coming spring, offering fans an Easter-themed sneak peek as a lead up to the holiday. After concluding Season 7 in 2023, there’s been a noticeable gap in new episodes for the show. Due to certain production issues caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the animated series missed out on 2024, but now it’s getting ready to make a comeback with renewed energy later this spring, promising fresh episodes for viewers to enjoy.
After Adult Swim’s traditional April Fool’s Day prank this year, which featured a play bringing Rick and Morty to life, it was officially confirmed that new episodes of Rick and Morty will air later in May. This is the first substantial update for Season 8 since it was announced a couple of years ago, and it appears that production has picked up pace as a sneak peek clip from the upcoming season has also been unveiled. You can catch a glimpse of Rick and Morty Season 8 in the video provided above.
When Does Rick and Morty Season 8 Come Out?
The eighth season of “Rick and Morty” will make its official premiere on May 25th at 11:00pm Eastern/Pacific Time on Adult Swim. Additionally, it has been announced that this upcoming season can be streamed starting September 1st later in the year, on both Max and Hulu. Co-creator of “Rick and Morty,” Dan Harmon, along with showrunner Scott Marder, will be back for the new season. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden, Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, and Spencer Grammer will reprise their roles in the series for this upcoming season.
In a recent sneak preview, we find ourselves revisiting the mysterious Easter-themed location from last week’s premiere, where Rick and Morty embarked on an investigation that appeared to lead down a more mystical path. This could very well be part of the same episode and might serve as the season opener. If so, this would be the first time the series delves into Easter-themed mysteries, and given the series’ history of extraordinary holiday specials, we can expect another mind-blowing adventure for Easter this year too.
What Will Rick and Morty Season 8 Be About?
Predicting the plot of any given episode or even an entire season of “Rick and Morty” is nearly impossible, as each installment often takes unexpected turns. Adult Swim itself acknowledges this unpredictability in their description for the new season: “Rick and Morty returns for Season Eight! Life has purpose again! Anything can happen! Watch out for adventures involving Summer, Jerry, Beth, and the other Beth. Perhaps Butter Bot will receive a new assignment? Whatever transpires, Rick and Morty never stay defeated for long. Many have tried to thwart them, but to no avail.
Preparing to resume with Season 8, “Rick and Morty” is poised for a prolonged run within its franchise. Beyond the initial commitment of ten seasons, Adult Swim has announced an extension for two more seasons, pushing the show up to Season 12. This extends its run significantly, positioning it as one of the longest-running original animated series in Adult Swim’s history.
