The animated series “Rick and Morty” is currently midway through its run, airing Season 8 on Adult Swim. The actor voicing Rick Sanchez recently mentioned that he’s keen to revive an iconic joke from earlier seasons in future episodes. After the significant events in the last few seasons, “Rick and Morty” is establishing a new dynamic for the show. So far, the initial episodes of Season 8 have resonated with fans as they seem to mark a return to the series’ original style, launching a fresh wave of episodic journeys for Rick and Morty.
In a bit of a throwback moment, an episode of Rick and Morty has resurrected an old catchphrase from Rick Sanchez, one that hasn’t been heard for some time. The voice actor behind Rick, Ian Cardoni, mentioned in an interview with ComicBook about another classic Rick joke he hopes to reintroduce in future episodes, and also expressed his wish to let out more burps on screen. Although he has bigger aspirations for the show’s future, Cardoni humorously admitted, “I think I would simply enjoy burping more.
Rick and Morty Star Hopes to Bring Back Burps
Cardoni expressed his desire to incorporate more belching into the character, emphasizing the importance of preserving what makes the character unique while pushing it even further. He hinted at an increase in burps this season due to the new cast members having more creative freedom compared to their earlier work on Season 7 of Rick and Morty. Cardoni suggested maintaining a balance between over-the-top, absurd adventures and deep, emotional storytelling, while not forgetting humor related to bodily functions. In his opinion, this blend is what makes it extraordinary.

Regarding the evolutions in the forthcoming Season 8 of Rick and Morty, Cardoni commented, “There’s a sense of nostalgia and romanticizing of the most memorable scenes from earlier seasons. As a fan, I appreciate those moments too. However, that’s only one facet of the characters. If the creators and actors had maintained this perspective since the early seasons, they wouldn’t have produced those iconic moments. We’re enjoying ourselves, having fun, and can’t wait for Seasons 8 and 9!
Rick and Morty Season 8 Is Different for Its Stars
Cardoni shared insights about their modified recording process during Rick and Morty Season 8, mentioning they now have increased creative liberty compared to the restrictions in matching previous work. In other words, since they joined the production of Season 7 so late, they had to record multiple times per week for extended sessions to keep up with the production schedule and ensure timely delivery for fans – a situation that doesn’t typically occur when recording a show.
Compared to the original timeline, working on Season 8 has been more like an “indulgence” for its new stars. While Season 7 was a hectic blur, Season 8 allowed us a bit more leeway with each episode. This extra time was a welcome luxury. Since there wasn’t much to compare it to, the extended production period for Season 8 felt like a genuine luxury. However, this additional time had a positive impact as it freed up our creative minds and provided us with numerous possibilities and directions for character development.
