The Jam drummer Rick Buckler has died at the age of 69, his former bandmates have confirmed.
Previously, Buckler was part of a new wave-punk group featuring vocalist and guitarist Paul Weller, as well as bassist Bruce Foxton. In a heartfelt tweet (or post), Foxton expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of Buckler.
Weller said he was “shocked and saddened”.
On Monday evening, it was announced by his management team that he peacefully passed away in Woking, following a brief illness, surrounded by loved ones.
Rick was cherished as a caring spouse, parent, and grandparent, and he was an adored friend by numerous people. He will leave behind a significant void that many will deeply feel.
The Jam released several albums together, including All Mod Cons (1978) and Sound Affects (1980).
They achieved four UK chart-toppers such as “Going Underground” and “A Town Called Malice,” along with a UK number one album titled “The Gift.
Buckler was part of the band from their formation in 1972 until they split up a decade later.
Later on, Buckler and Foxton teamed up in From the Jam, whereas Weller moved forward to create the pop group Style Council and garnered multiple number one albums as a solo performer.
After their time together, Buckler and Foxton joined forces in From the Jam, while Weller embarked on forming Style Council and amassed several chart-topping albums as a single artist.
On social media, Weller expressed his grief over the death of Rick, reminiscing about our old times spent rehearsing in your bedroom on Stanley Road, Woking. He also recalled the countless pubs and clubs we performed at as youngsters, leading up to producing a record.

In addition, Weller quoted Foxton’s remarks, where he expressed his shock and sorrow upon learning the sad news. He described Rick as a wonderful person and an exceptional drummer whose inventive drum beats significantly contributed to our music compositions.
Foxton expressed, “It’s been a pleasure collaborating with you as often as we have. I send my deepest sympathies to [Lesley, his wife] and the entire family during this challenging period.
