Update [Thu 1st May 2025, 5am]: After approximately a month as a presumed Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, industrious developer Hamster has now revealed that Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer will be available for the PS5.
On June 5th, the game will debut on Sony’s console, along with the newly released Nintendo hybrid system. However, there will also be a version available for PlayStation 4. It’s important to note that this version will be part of the original Arcade Archives line, meaning it won’t have all the features included in the PS5 release due to some differences.
Beyond the Original Mode, High Score Mode, and Caravan Mode that are already part of the Arcade Archives series, the upcoming Arcade Archives 2 Ridge Racer will also introduce a fresh element known as Time Attack Mode.

In Time Attack Mode, the goal is to beat others by finishing the game as swiftly as possible. The emphasis here lies not on the points you accumulate, but rather on how rapidly you can complete the game itself.
“Additionally, functionality has been significantly enhanced.
Instead of having only a single save point, multiple save slots are now available, providing more flexibility. Additionally, there’s a rewind function that lets gamers attempt challenging sections again, and a quick play option for those eager to jump right into the action without delay.
Additionally, we’ve included Virtual Reality Refresh Rate (VRR) support, which improves the accuracy of recreating the authentic arcade game feel.
The cost hasn’t been set yet, but we’re eagerly anticipating the opportunity to hop back into the driver’s seat of one of the best arcade racers ever created!
Original Story:
Hamster Corporation, known for its diligent work in emulating arcade games, is introducing a fresh wave of titles from its Arcade Archives library on the Nintendo Switch 2. The journey begins with the 1993 Namco classic, Ridge Racer.
As a devoted gamer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the chance to dive into the iconic world of System 22, but unfortunately, it seems like I’ll have to wait before I can do so on my PS5. The developers have only announced support for Nintendo’s latest machine at this point in time.
It’s clear that Ridge Racer and PlayStation share a strong bond, as the original game was quickly adapted for the PlayStation 1, serving as an early demonstration of the mighty power housed within Sony’s new gaming system. Although we’re currently enjoying the arcade version, our hope is to experience it on the PS5 someday.
The announcement details that the upcoming Arcade Archives series includes Time Attack settings and numerous enhancements such as multiple save points and VRR compatibility.
As an eager fan, I’m reaching out to Hamster to see if they have any intentions of making this game available on the PlayStation Store.
While waiting, feel free to enjoy the PSP edition of Ridge Racer 2 and the timeless PS1 title Ridge Racer Type 4 on both your PS5 and PS4 systems through the emulation feature of PS Plus Premium.
