The most recent news about the upcoming post-apocalyptic movie, “The Dog Stars,” has unveiled its expected launch date.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Disney has announced the release date for the upcoming post-apocalyptic film by the iconic director behind Gladiator and Alien – March 27th, 2026! This movie is an adaptation of Peter Heller’s 2012 novel, The Dog Stars, which is currently in production in Italy. Originally cast was Paul Mescal, but unforeseen circumstances led to him stepping away from the project. Stepping into his shoes will be Jacob Elordi, known for his exceptional work in Euphoria and Saltburn.
The movie titled “The Dog Stars” is also scheduled to showcase acting by Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin, Guy Pearce. The storyline goes like this: In Colorado, after a pandemic has devastated the world’s population, a solitary man dwells in an airplane hangar with his dog and a morose gunman he calls friend. A strange radio transmission during a flight in his old Cessna sets off a quest to discover the origin of the sound.
Other Films Confirmed For 2026
In addition to announcing a release date for “The Devil Wears Prada’s sequel,” Disney also revealed “The Dog Stars.” The initial movie was released in 2006, and its sequel is expected to arrive approximately 20 years later on May 1, 2026. Few details have been disclosed about the upcoming film so far.
In the same round of scheduling changes, it was also announced that Disney will re-release Avatar: The Way of Water in cinemas on October 3rd, as they gear up for the launch of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19.
