Rise of the Ronin Would Not Have Been Made Without Sony

This week, the game “Rise of the Ronin” became available on PC, following a year of exclusive launch on PlayStation 5. This title was jointly produced by Koei Tecmo and PlayStation Studios. As stated by former Sony employee Shuhei Yoshida, this game is what Sony views as a secondary publication from their studio.

In a conversation with RPGSite, Fumihiko Yasuda (the head of Team Ninja) shared that PlayStation had a hand in every part of the development process.

He disclosed that for the development of Rise of the Ronin, PlayStation Studios played a substantial role in almost every stage of the PS5 version’s creation. They contributed valuable guidance on various aspects such as accessibility and improving the accuracy of onboarding, which significantly boosted the game’s value and offered a remarkable experience for Team Ninja.

Yosuke Hayashi, the producer, noted that the project wouldn’t have been initiated if it weren’t for the assistance provided by PlayStation Studios. He expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the PlayStation Studios team for providing their support in taking on this fresh endeavor. In essence, he was thrilled to acknowledge their help.

Lately, Sony has been adding more and more exclusive games developed by its own studios, with Stellar Blade being the latest game to achieve significant success.

In this situation, everyone stands to gain, as games can leverage Sony’s knowledge and promotional power, yet creators maintain control over their creative assets. Moreover, they also have the flexibility to transfer their projects to different platforms in the future should they decide to do so.
