Rivals features a juicy Poldark Easter egg for fans of Aidan Turner

As a die-hard fan of Poldark and an avid viewer of period dramas, I was beyond thrilled when I heard about Rivals, the new Disney Plus series that brings together my beloved Ross Poldark himself, Aidan Turner. The fact that they used one of the locations from Poldark as a setting for Rivals made me feel like I’m part of an exclusive club.

It seems there’s an interesting blend of characters from Poldark and its antagonists in the latest Disney Plus series.

Besides starring Ross Poldark himself, Aidan Turner, the series Rivals also made use of a location that was previously seen in the period drama.

In the television series “Rivals,” and more famously known as the set for Turner’s on-screen residence, Chavenage House located in Tetbury might be familiar to viewers of “Poldark” as it was portrayed as Trenwith.

As a movie critic, I must say that Poldark’s grand estate, Trenwith, played host to some intensely passionate moments – reminiscent, perhaps, of the steamy scenes in the latest series, Rivals, which has sparked quite the buzz among viewers due to its daring themes and explicit love scenes.

As a film enthusiast, I found myself captivated by the press materials for the upcoming series “Rivals”. The creators behind this new production sought out locations that would rival the grandeur of their characters themselves. For producer Eliza Mellor, the search began with Caroline Lowsley-Williams, the proprietress of Chavenage House, who graciously offered her historic estate as a shooting location.

Previously, this duo collaborated on Poldark, and later discovered that Chavenage, a historical Grade I-listed Elizabethan structure often visited by King Charles and Princess Anne, seemed ideal for the relocation of the O’Hara family from London to Rutshire.

The brand-new Disney Plus show offers an exhilarating journey into the realm of ’80s independent TV, the struggle for corporate dominance, and the scandalous personal lives of Rutshire’s inhabitants.

In this television series, Turner assumes the role of Declan O’Hara, the presenter, accompanied by Victoria Smurfit who portrays his wife Maud, Bella Maclean takes on the character of their daughter Taggie, Catriona Chandler plays another daughter named Caitlin, and Gabriel Tierney acts as their son Patrick.

In the wide realm of Rutshire, a member of one particular family, Turner, expressed his belief that followers of the initial Jilly Cooper book will find no reason to be discontented with the upcoming remake.

Turner agreed, saying: “I don’t think they’ll be disappointed.”

As a film enthusiast, I concur with your sentiment. Though I was acquainted with Jilly Cooper’s name prior to this project, I hadn’t delved into her work before our filming began. Given that Ireland isn’t geographically distant and the books are quite popular there, it was only natural that I wasn’t unfamiliar with her, but I hadn’t read any of them until we started shooting.

As an actor, one of the fantastic aspects is being able to delve into books that you might not have considered before. It’s surprising and exciting to discover new literary genres this way, making the experience truly enjoyable.

Rivals is available to stream on Disney Plus.
