As a movie critic who was a youngster during the 1980s, I can confidently say that the Disney+ adaptation of Rivals transported me back to those days with a swiftness and accuracy that would make a DeLorean envious. The cast, led by the likes of David Tennant, Aidan Turner, and Danny Dyer, brought the pantomime characters of Rupert Campbell-Black and Lord Baddingham to life in a way that had me laughing out loud more times than I care to admit.
It’s quite likely that numerous readers here might recall the 1980s. As for whether their memories align with how the 1980s are depicted in Jilly Cooper’s popular novel Rivals, I cannot say for certain.
