As a long-time admirer of Robert Downey Jr’s resilience and talent, I must say that his journey from nearly missing out on Doctor Doom to becoming Iron Man and now returning as the villainous Doctor Doom is nothing short of inspiring. It’s like watching a phoenix rise from the ashes, over and over again.
Approximately two decades ago, there were discussions about Robert Downey Jr. portraying Doctor Doom. However, he eventually took on the role of Iron Man instead, which led him to appear in ten Marvel films and potentially earn between $500 million and $600 million. Given such a substantial income, one might wonder how he manages his finances! Interestingly, it was recently announced at Comic-Con that Downey Jr. will reprise his role as the villainous Doctor Doom. Now, let’s ponder over what his fee for this new role could be.
Robert Downey Jr. will rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) under the condition that the Russo brothers are the ones in charge because he only collaborates with them. As a result, it’s rumored that the Russos are receiving $80 million for each film, while Downey Jr.’s salary is estimated to be over $100 million. His contract also comes with additional benefits like private jet travel, personal security, and a mobile living quarters setup (trailer encampment).
In their contract, the Russo’s are granted additional performance-based benefits if the movie surpasses the milestones of $750 million and $1 billion in box office earnings.
Fan reactions to the news that he’ll portray a villain have been varied, with some labeling it as a desperate move while others view it as an inspired choice.
….so that’s Robert Downey Jr fee to play Doctor Doom!
Shooting on the new “Avengers” kicks off in London in the second quarter of 2025.
