Robert Pattinson has enjoyed one of the most dynamic acting careers among 21st-century actors. His early career included a part in the Harry Potter series, followed by playing the central vampire character Edward Cullen in Twilight from 2008 to 2012. After concluding his work on the Twilight movies, he spent several years revamping his acting persona. In 2015, two years after finishing up with Twilight, he starred in the dystopian thriller film The Rover produced by A24. Then, in 2017, Pattinson took on a new image by playing the leading role in the Safdie Brothers’ movie Good Time.
Currently, Pattinson is an actor who seamlessly transitions between major studio productions and independent films. His reputation in indie cinema has opened doors to collaborate with a diverse range of talented directors, including Robert Eggers, with whom he worked on “The Lighthouse”. Additionally, his fame afforded him the opportunity to portray Bruce Wayne in “Batman” and assume a pivotal role in Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet”, demonstrating his versatility in large-scale productions. Recently, a film that he was part of earlier this year has been made available for streaming.
Mickey 17 Is Now Streaming On Max: What It’s About
The Film Is Based On A Book
The film titled “Mickey 17” marks South Korean director Bong Joon Ho’s first feature release following his Best Picture win for “Parasite“. It’s also the third of his films to be in English, with previous works like “Snowpiercer” and “Okja” being part of this series. After facing several postponements, the movie premiered in theaters on March 7 of this year and has now become available on HBO Max as of May 23.
The film is based on the novel “Mickey7” by Edward Ashton. This intriguing mix of science fiction and dark comedy revolves around a character named Mickey, who signs up for a mission to colonize space. Throughout the story, various individuals play different roles, but Mickey is unique – he’s expendable, meaning he participates in some of the most perilous missions and essentially functions as a test subject. When he dies, he is cloned and reborn.
Robert Pattinson Plays Clones Of Himself In Mickey 17, & The Results Are Amazing
Some Clones Have Different Personalities
In the film “Mickey 17”, Robert Pattinson assumes the lead role, portraying the human prototype of Mickey and all his duplicates. Although most of the cloned counterparts are briefly displayed in a speedy montage sequence that offers an overview of their lives, we get a glimpse into the distinct personalities of each clone. This diversity enables Pattinson to exhibit a broad spectrum of characters within “Mickey 17”, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
As a devoted fan, I must admit that Robert Pattinson adopts an unusually eccentric vocal tone throughout most of the movie, which sets it apart from his past roles. To be honest, this character is by far the most outlandishly quirky in terms of vocal mannerisms and physical acting within his filmography. Initially, it may seem a bit jarringly unusual, but as the audience, we soon grow fond of the multiple incarnations of Mickey, making the movie more engaging. The story gains momentum when one version of Mickey miraculously survives being left for dead, providing Pattinson with an opportunity to explore the narrative from fresh angles.
Why You Should Watch Mickey 17
The Movie Has A Great Cast
Mickey 17 might not match up to the impact of Parasite, but it’s still worth watching. This movie stands out as one of the top films of the year thus far, boasting remarkable lead performances. Apart from Robert Pattinson, it offers a chance to see some renowned actors in action, including Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. It also showcases impressive performances by emerging stars such as Naomi Ackie (from the Sundance hit “Sorry, Baby”) and Steven Yeun (currently seen in the Prime Video series “Invincible”).
Beyond the stellar ensemble cast of “Mickey 17”, the film stands out for its employment of dark humor. Although Bong’s script may at times seem straightforward in portraying its themes, antagonists like Kenneth Marshall leave no doubt about their motives. To put it simply, this sci-fi movie never falls short on entertainment value. The comedic elements build up to a thrilling climax in the action-packed final sequence, ensuring viewers are left exhilarated. Add to that an exceptional lead performance from Pattinson and you have a film that is well worth watching, particularly when streaming options are considered. In essence, “Mickey 17” is not a movie to be missed.
