Roberto Orci, Transformers, Star Trek, and Amazing Spider-Man 2 Writer, Dies at 51

Roberto Orci, a prominent producer and writer known for his work on the Star Trek and live-action Transformers series, has passed away at the age of 51 after battling kidney disease. It was announced on Tuesday that he died at his home in Los Angeles on Feb. 25th. Over the years, Orci worked closely with J.J. Abrams and Alex Kurtzman, his co-creators on the 2008 sci-fi show Fringe. Among other projects, Orci co-wrote major films produced by Paramount such as Mission: Impossible III (2006), Transformers directed by Michael Bay (2007), the 2009 reboot of Star Trek directed by Abrams, and sequels including Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016).

In a statement, Orci’s brother described him as an imaginative storyteller with an immense, kind heart and a radiant spirit. “More than just a creative genius,” he added, “he was a caring friend who would pause everything to aid a stranger and offer shelter to the least noticed dog from the pound.
