Ron Howard Responds to Star Wars Pitch for a Teenage Leia Series Starring Vivien Lyra Blair

Vivien Lyra Blair is set to revisit the distant galaxy once more. The young actress who portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi, has proposed an ideal approach for her to reprise the role of Princess Leia within that same galactic setting.

In a recent conversation, Blair expressed her enthusiasm for the possibility of portraying a younger version of Leia, suggesting it could be exciting. She also addressed fans who have suggested they don’t require a standalone Leia series. However, Blair firmly disagrees with this sentiment, stating that Star Wars needs less male-centric stories and more female characters to strengthen the universe’s female presence. In her opinion, such a series could indeed be enjoyable and beneficial for the overall Star Wars franchise.

Blair proposed an idea for a TV series featuring a teenage Leia, similar in tone to current hits like ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ and ‘XO, Kitty’. She envisioned it as a mix between ‘Goonies’ and ‘Stranger Things’, specifically designed for teen viewers. The show would revolve around Star Wars characters, with Leia at the center, as Blair put it, “a show that felt like a blend of popular teen shows, but with familiar characters like Leia.

A show somewhat similar to “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and “XO, Kitty,” might center around a high school romance, but with the unique twist of having Leia as a member of the Junior Senate. Such a concept could be challenging to write effectively, but it certainly has potential for being entertaining and attracting more viewers of that genre, she suggested.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m keeping my eyes peeled on the potential Leia series by Lucasfilm. Since actor Greg Grunberg, who’s portraying teenage Leia, doesn’t officially turn that age until June, there’s plenty of time for Lucasfilm to think it over. With TV shows often featuring actors older than teenagers playing adolescent roles, there’s no immediate need for Lucasfilm to get the ball rolling on this project. However, with productions like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor in the pipeline, a series that offers a fresh perspective on the same timeframe but from a unique viewpoint could provide intriguing new angles on our beloved Star Wars universe.

Next Star Wars Movie Officially Announced

At present, Lucasfilm is in Japan for their annual Star Wars Celebration event. Following the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu in theaters, a new movie titled Star Wars: Starfighter was announced during their panel discussion. This upcoming film is set five years after the events depicted in The Rise of Skywalker, offering fans another exciting Star Wars adventure.

It’s been announced that Ryan Gosling will take on a fresh role within the upcoming film titled “Starfighter”. Moreover, Lucasfilm has revealed that “Starfighter” is set to hit theaters on May 28, 2027. Given that “The Mandalorian & Grogu” is scheduled for release in 2026, this means fans can expect a new Star Wars movie every year for at least the subsequent two years.

As a devoted Star Wars fan, I can happily rewatch Blair’s portrayal of young Leia Organa by tuning into the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+.
