Ronda Rousey Reveals WWE Offered Evolution 2 and Becky Lynch Match to Keep Her

Ronda Rousey Reveals WWE Offered Evolution 2 and Becky Lynch Match to Keep Her

As a die-hard WWE fan who’s seen my fair share of matches and events over the years, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia when thinking about Evolution. The first one back in 2018 was truly groundbreaking, showcasing the incredible talent of the women’s division like never before. So, when Ronda Rousey revealed that WWE had planned for a second Evolution, headlined by her and Becky Lynch, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating the return of WWE’s all-women premium event, Evolution, since it last took place in 2018. Interestingly, it seems that WWE had actually planned a second Evolution at one point, as part of a deal with Ronda Rousey after WrestleMania. In an interview with Ring the Belle, Rousey disclosed that WWE wanted her to extend her stay beyond WrestleMania, and in return, they would host another Evolution event shortly thereafter (credit to Fightful). The main attraction for this event was supposed to be a one-on-one match between Rousey and Becky Lynch, a bout that both women had desired for quite some time. Unfortunately, Rousey had already made a commitment to her family to leave, and she wasn’t prepared to go back on that promise.

In the interview, Rousey revealed that WWE asked her to stay after WrestleMania 35, and if she did, they would build towards a Becky Lynch match for Evolution 2. “Well, they offered to bring it back for a second time. They said, ‘Ronda, if you stay after WrestleMania, we’ll have another Evolution in six weeks, and have you Becky as a singles.’ I was like, ‘I promised my family.’ First, I was saying, ‘Oh, I will only go from WrestleMania until Survivor Series. Then, Triple H convinced me to stay from WrestleMania to WrestleMania, and I promised my family, ‘Okay, that’s it. That’s it.’ I have kids, a husband, and a home, and I’m gone for weeks on end,” Rousey said.

In response, Rousey stated, “When they suggested something else, I replied, ‘I’ve asked too much of my family already. I can’t ask any more from them. I made a promise to them, to you, and to myself that I would only stay this long. I won’t keep moving the goalpost.’ In the end, I injured my knuckle, which would have prevented me from doing it anyway. However, they offered an incentive, but I couldn’t take it.”

Future of Evolution

Even though no news about another Evolution event has surfaced recently, Rousey expresses her hope that they will revive it in the future. She believes that they no longer require her participation and have moved past that stage, instead needing to trust women’s capabilities to pull off such an event successfully. She feels there should be more of these events, but as of now, nobody seems to be asking her about it.

Initially, the women’s divisions in WWE and NXT were quite capable, even during the first Evolution. However, they have since grown and improved significantly, now ready to handle a top-tier live event independently. Additionally, the collaboration with TNA adds another layer, as it would be ideal for showcasing talent from both organizations, thereby expanding the roster even further. If this event materializes, it’s expected to be quite extraordinary.
