Rosie O’Donnell Can’t Believe Daughter Is Changing Her Last Name!

Rosie O’Donnell’s daughter is choosing a name of her own.

More than two months following when Chelsea O’Donnell, the comedian’s adopted daughter aged 27, submitted paperwork to officially switch her surname to her biological mother’s maiden name, the Emmy-winning comedian expressed her intricate feelings through a newly composed poem.

In a heartfelt blog post dated April 6th, I penned down my thoughts: “It baffles me that she wants to adopt her birth mother’s maiden name instead. I may not be related to her by blood, but that doesn’t make me any less of a fan.” To clarify, this isn’t about me; I am simply here to support her – she is the one who needs my encouragement, not the other way around. As a wise woman once said: “It’s not about me; I am here for her.

The actress who played a prominent role in “A League of Their Own” – she adopted Chelsea in 1997 together with partner Kelli Carpenter at that time – also spoke about Chelsea’s special case of having three mothers, which includes her biological mother Deanna (née Neuens) Micoley.

Rosie went on, “In reality, I have three mothers – Kelli, Deanna, and myself, without any specific ranking.” She added, “Each adoption tale carries complexity, depth, and underlying emotions. Sometimes, these intricate feelings don’t entirely heal over time.

When discussing Chelsea’s ordeal over the past few months, which includes her arrest in December for multiple drug-related felonies and in October for drug offenses and child neglect, the ex-talk show host simultaneously acknowledged her struggles and commended her daughter’s recent advancements.

I can’t help but admire how she’s thriving, even amidst the gossip mill. She’s focusing on personal growth, just like the rest of us, and I wish nothing but privacy for her self-improvement journey. If only we could all shed our celebrity labels, I’d be right there alongside her.” (63-year-old’s perspective)

Back in February, I found myself standing before a court, charged with three serious offenses: resisting an officer, jumping bail on a felony, and possessing methamphetamine. As reported by People, these were the grim details that filled the court records. Thankfully, my lesser drug charges were dropped.

Fast forward to March 31st, I was handed a six-year probation sentence. The conditions? Absolutely no alcohol or controlled substances in my possession, no interactions with any known drug users or dealers. It’s a tough road ahead, but I’m ready to face it head-on and make things right.

Regardless of the fact that Chelsea has opted for her birth mother’s name, Rosie – who is a mother to Parker (age 29), Blake (25), Vivienne (22), and Clay (12) – remains encouraging about Chelsea’s choices.

She expressed her admiration for her, stating, ‘I’m proud of her for living authentically, I respect her choices, and her journey – both the hardships and triumphs – is truly inspiring.’ She further added, ‘She has the power to shape her identity, her environment, her loved ones, and her life, and I fully support that.’

She remarked, “We nurture them as well as we can, making mistakes along the way in countless forms. Yet, through thick and thin, whether sharing the same name or not, she remains my girl – strong-willed and resolute.
