Photos from the set of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV series reveal that one iconic Wizarding World location is being brought back to life: Platform 9 3/4, the magical train platform where young witches and wizards board the Hogwarts Express. Shared by X (previously known as Twitter) account UnBoxPHD, these images show progress being made, with train tracks laid out and crew members diligently constructing the platform’s cafe and waiting areas. The project appears to be on schedule and looks promising.
For the Harry Potter films, real-life scenes depicting Platform 9 3/4 were filmed on site at London’s King’s Cross Station, which is where it exists within the storyline. However, HBO’s television version seems to be taking a different approach by constructing a set at the studio instead. Here are some photos of the new setup:

The production of the “Harry Potter” series is set to commence this summer. Prior to filming, the show’s cast has been assembled. In late May, HBO officially revealed their choices for the main characters Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Additionally, several other significant roles have already been assigned. Just recently, nine more actors were confirmed for the project, including those who will depict members of the Dursley and Malfoy families.
Besides Platform 9 3/4, other realistic sets are also being constructed for Harry Potter. Earlier images reveal what seems to be the series’ interpretation of Privet Drive, showcasing the construction of multiple houses and buildings. Fans are amazed by the extensive work happening during pre-production, praising the creative team for going beyond relying on digital effects.
It’s not surprising that Platform 9 3/4 was one of the first sets built for the Harry Potter series, given its significance as one of the initial glimpses into the Wizarding World for Harry during his journey to Hogwarts. With this being a crucial location in the storyline, it’s reasonable to expect Platform 9 3/4 to play a key role in the first season of the HBO adaptation. As a pivotal introduction to unconventional locations like Platform 9 3/4 and Diagon Alley in the novel, The Sorcerer’s Stone, it will be intriguing to see how much attention the TV show’s version of Platform 9 3/4 receives. Unlike the films, which had to hurry through scenes due to time limitations, the TV medium offers a larger canvas for the creative team to paint a more detailed picture of Platform 9 3/4, as evidenced by the inclusion of cafes and waiting areas in the set design.
The Harry Potter movies were celebrated for their exceptional set design, creating an enchanting experience as audiences journeyed through the Wizarding World across all eight films. Iconic locations such as Hogwarts and Platform 9 3/4 remain indelible in our pop culture memory today. To strike a balance, the new series must respect its predecessors while also introducing fresh elements. So far, HBO’s set appears promising, but only upon completion will we truly know if it lives up to expectations. If the series can deliver on production design comparable or superior to the films, fans will be in for a magical ride.
