There’s been a substantial increase in speculation about a Devil May Cry remake, fueled by recent remarks from Daniel Southworth, the voice actor for Vergil.
At Power Morphicon 2024 held in August of the previous year, Southworth participated in a Devil May Cry anniversary panel. Interestingly, it’s The Nerd Stash that’s been reporting on this event now, more than five months after it happened.
Southworth mentions that he completed a video game around three or four weeks prior, and he’s hesitant to disclose its title as he has a reputation for revealing too much information. However, they requested him to use his voice from the year 2004 or thereabouts.
He continues: “[They asked] ‘Can you do the younger Vergil version?’ So that was challenging.”
Indirectly, Southworth’s remarks seem to imply that a Devil May Cry remake might be underway, potentially featuring Southworth portraying a younger iteration of the frequent adversary, Vergil.
It’s important to note that, apart from Devil May Cry, Southworth has also provided voicework for numerous other video games. It could be that he’s alluding to an entirely distinct project where he was tasked with delivering a more youthful Vergil voice.
Given the circumstances, it’s challenging to give undue importance to this specific gossip. However, considering Capcom’s recent trend of re-creating classic games – with Resident Evil being a notable instance – and the success of Devil May Cry 5, the notion that they might remake the first Resident Evil game or even a prequel like Devil May Cry 3 using the RE Engine isn’t entirely improbable.
It may not be what we want to hear, but it seems we’ll need to be patient and observe the developments. As of now, Capcom’s upcoming releases seem promising; Monster Hunter World 2 is nearly here, a fresh Onimusha game is planned for 2026, and there’s a good chance that a new Resident Evil will be unveiled this year too.
What’s your take on this gossip? Is it plausible that Southworth is suggesting a Devil May Cry remake, or is it simply optimistic speculation? Keep up the positive vibes in the comment section below.
