Something unusual is happening with Cyberpunk 2077, and it’s not merely referring to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version (even though that could potentially play a role).
It appears that there’s growing speculation about Cyberpunk 2077 receiving additional content, not necessarily another large-scale expansion like Phantom Liberty. Instead, it seems more probable that this could be a significant update, potentially introducing new side quests or activities to the game’s open world.
A keen-eyed Reddit user in the CyberpunkGame community has pointed out that Doug Van Horne, a senior writer at Virtuos, added ‘Cyberpunk 2077 Downloadable Content’ to his list of experiences on LinkedIn.
This post has since been removed, which arguably adds weight to the leak itself.
Virtuos, an external development studio, is responsible for creating Update 2.2 – a significant patch for the game Cyberpunk 2077, which was released in December. CD Projekt Red hired Virtuos to develop additional content for the game, as their core team shifted their focus to other projects such as The Witcher 4 and a future Cyberpunk project named Orion.
Upon the release of version 2.2, it was conjectured that additional updates may have been underway at Virtuos. Given that engaging the company solely for a single update appeared somewhat extravagant, it wasn’t an unreasonable assumption to make.
The Van Horne leak highlights the task of crafting dialogues for various fresh side missions, and making efforts to develop these missions for upcoming downloadable content expansions.
Let me explain how the Switch 2 edition of Cyberpunk 2077 factors into our discussion. Recently, we shared news about a possible update for the current versions of the game, inspired by fresh insights from authentic footage showcasing the gameplay on the Switch 2 port.
It appears more and more probable that we’re soon going to receive an update, potentially coinciding with the launch of the Switch 2 on the 5th of June.
One concern we have about the entire matter is: If Cyberpunk 2077 indeed includes new content for the hypothetical Switch 2, why isn’t this feature being promoted more aggressively? Given that additional quests or activities could serve as strong selling points, one would expect a greater emphasis on their inclusion.
Once more, we’ll need to keep an eye on developments to understand the full picture. However, it seems quite plausible that the support for Cyberpunk 2077 is still ongoing based on this recent revelation.
What’s your take on this situation? Do you feel excited about going back to Night City? If there were additional DLC or updates, what would you hope to see? Feel free to share your imaginative ideas in the comments section below.
