As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of PlayStation loyalty under my belt, I must say this news has me all sorts of excited! From my earliest memories of playing Crash Bandicoot and WipEout on the original PlayStation, to the adrenaline-fueled rides on MotorStorm and Resistance, these dormant franchises have been a part of my gaming journey.
The thought of revisiting these classics or even experiencing new iterations is truly heartening. The idea of a revitalized Sly Cooper or Killzone series has me practically dancing with anticipation. I can almost hear the whirring of the hovercrafts in WipEout and feel the rumble of tanks in MotorStorm already!
However, as someone who’s had their fair share of waiting for sequels to never materialize (cough, cough…Fable 4), I remain cautiously optimistic. Sony has hinted at this possibility before, but we’ve yet to see the fruits of their labor. But hey, if it takes a while for these projects to come to fruition, I guess it just means I have more time to replay the originals and relive the nostalgia all over again!
And on a lighter note, let’s hope that if these games do return, they remember to include that iconic “PS1 Jingle” as an option in the settings. Nothing quite compares to hearing that tune when booting up a game!
A new report suggests that Sony is actively planning to revive some long-dormant first-party video game series from the PlayStation brand.
According to Andy Robinson, who spoke recently on the latest podcast episode (as indicated by the timestamp), this information originates from him.
In the course of discussing Sony’s plan to potentially resurrect old intellectual properties, Robinson mentions that they are currently working on some of these projects.
Speaking about potential revivals of PlayStation’s classic game franchises, he hinted, “There are at least a couple of games I know they’re developing right now. These aren’t your typical blockbuster titles; they’re more like lesser-known, vintage intellectual properties.” He further mentioned that these games will probably be smaller projects to supplement the lineup of future first-party releases from the platform holder.
It aligns with the company’s recent suggestions, yet it’s unclear how advanced these alleged projects are. Therefore, it could take some time to verify whether Robinson’s statement is accurate.
Even so, it would be great if some timeless PlayStation series made a comeback! A revival of WipEout is well past its time, and the idea of a new MotorStorm, Resistance, Sly Cooper, or Killzone really gets us pumped up. However, it’s more wishful thinking than a certainty on our part.
Could there be some truly exciting events coming up in the following years? I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Feel free to share them in the comments section below.
