As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a penchant for action-packed adventures, I can’t help but feel a twinge of excitement at the prospect of Kelly Marcel helming the next James Bond film. Her impressive resume, spanning from Saving Mr. Banks to Venom: The Last Dance, speaks volumes about her versatility as a director.
Kelly Marcel, the director of “Venom: The Last Dance,” expressed surprise when she discovered herself among the potential candidates for the upcoming James Bond movie, using the term “flabbergasted” to describe her feelings.
The creator, both a writer and director, has made a name for himself by collaborating with Tom Hardy in the latest Marvel trilogy, as well as being involved in projects such as Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks, the dinosaur-centric series Terra Nova, and Apple TV+’s horror production titled The Changeling.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve found myself among an esteemed group of directors being considered for Bond 26, as reported by The Telegraph. This list includes Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front), David Michod (The King), Yann Demange (’71) and Bart Layton (American Animals). It’s truly an honor to be in such distinguished company!
Currently, Marcel spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about this recent event, expressing her joy over being acknowledged alongside esteemed individuals.
She exclaimed, ‘What an astonishing accomplishment! I was taken aback.’ You see, there’s never been a woman who directed a James Bond film before, so to even be considered is truly overwhelming.
“So I’m grateful to be mentioned alongside any of those brilliant, brilliant directors.”
Later, Marcel tackled the rumor that his Venom: The Last Dance partner, Hardy, might someday take on the role of Bond, a role that fans have long called for.
The director clarified that one reason for Eddie Brock, usually looking unkempt in the films, being well-dressed in the third movie of the series (as portrayed by Hardy in Venom) is because it was decided to change his appearance.
She added: “There’s always been these rumours about [Tom] playing James Bond, so I may have been showing what Tom Hardy’s James Bond might look like.
Additionally, I was thrilled with the concept of him performing the third-act action scenes while wearing a stunning suit that made him look outstanding. It seemed fitting for Eddie to have this opportunity.
According to Marcel, Venom: The Last Dance truly marks the end of Hardy’s antihero saga, leaving room for him to potentially join another series. However, the leading candidate for a new franchise currently seems to be Aaron Taylor- Johnson, who was previously linked to Kraven the Hunter.
Venom: The Last Dance is out now in cinemas. James Bond films are streaming on Prime Video.
