The Early Access for Runescape’s Dragonwilds has been released, taking many by surprise since it wasn’t anticipated on the day it was launched. Given its complexity, especially for those new to survival games, here’s a list of ten helpful tips to navigate through this new version of the game while you get the hang of things.
Top 10 Tips & Tricks
During the game, you’ll discover numerous aspects to grasp, yet most of these lessons are effectively conveyed through the clear and concise tutorial, as well as informative tooltip boxes that appear when you perform actions or unlock new features.
Essentially, many of these suggestions will serve more as a reminder, since the game is quite basic right now, offering little hidden technology to master or incentive for excessive optimization.
Tip #1 – Abuse Axtral Projection Often
Axtral Projection is among the initial spells you’ll master in the game, introduced during tutorial. An NPC guides you through its details. You can access it at a moderate woodcutting level and only require a few astral and air runestones along with your woodcutting axe.
With this incantation, you’re able to fell numerous trees with a single invocation. If you align it correctly, as indicated by the trees marked in green, the spell will bring them crashing down, making it effortless for you to cut them into manageable pieces.
Tip #2 – Use Rocksplosion for Mining Everything
As a gamer, I found myself unlocking the Rocksplosion spell early on in my gameplay adventure. This nifty spell lets me blow up any nearby rocks or mining resources with a quick burst of elemental power, courtesy of some earth and fire runes. But here’s the catch: it has an extremely long cooldown, so I use it more as a handy extra rather than a go-to move.
One interesting fact you might not know is that these items can also be utilized for mining rune essence, including those floating in the air. Additionally, you could attempt to strike them using ranged attacks to make them fall to the ground.
To ensure you don’t squander any of your runes, align the range of your spell accurately, as it doesn’t mark the impacted nodes as Axtral Projection does.
Tip #3 – Build with Eye of Oculus
In the skill tree for construction, you’ll find the Eye of Oculus spell. This enchantment calls for only a modest number of astral runes. As its description explains, it allows you to construct structures from unique viewpoints. In simpler terms, this means you can erect buildings without needing scaffolding or having to move around awkwardly in hard-to-reach places.
When turned on, it enters a state akin to “building mode”, allowing you to construct items uninterruptedly. This feature is particularly handy if you find yourself having trouble building structures like rooftops or other elevated objects.
Tip #4 – Plan Stuff with Ghost Mode
In terms of construction, you can enable a feature known as “ghost mode” by pressing the ‘F’ key when you’re in build mode. This allows you to place outlines for the structures you’ve chosen without using any resources.
Ahead of time, this method enables you to design your project beforehand, giving you an idea if it’s feasible and aesthetically pleasing. Once prepared with the necessary resources, simply return and bring your plan to life by constructing it.
Tip #5 – Powerleveling Your Construction
A quick method to advance in construction is by constructing the most affordable projects possible to gain experience. Once completed, these structures can be taken apart and rebuilt anew since resources are completely restored when a structure is destroyed.
This item functions effectively with the crafting station, which is likely your most advantageous option given its remarkably low price and reasonable experience (exp) rate. You can accelerate this process further if you possess a potion that enhances construction exp, either by creating it or finding it in a looted chest at random.
As a passionate enthusiast, I’d advise you to streamline your approach by primarily focusing on the crafting station. Not every activity offers valuable experience, so this way, you can ensure a straightforward and efficient process.
Tip #6 – Recharge Your Armor with Rune Essence
From the moment you craft armor beyond your initial rags in the game, you’ll encounter a mechanic known as the “Lifewarden” system. One of the NPC characters will guide you through this with an accompanying side quest that becomes available right after your introduction to Lifewarden for the first time.
If you haven’t been following the conversation or chose to disregard it for any reason, let me clarify: This additional health you have is something you need to restore on your own when it runs out. I like to call it manually rechargeable extra health.
To create this, make your way to a runestone altar. At this location, you can discover the formula for crafting a petite wardstone. You will need some stone and rune energy for this, which are quite affordable and beneficial to keep on hand while adventuring.
In the side quest, you’ll learn everything about these wardstones, even their downsides. Keep in mind that using these wardstones comes with a bit of toxicity, so resist the urge to use them excessively during combat. Overuse could potentially lead to self-inflicted harm or death.
Tip #7 – Hunger and Thirst Do Not Kill You
If you must leave the game for any reason without closing it, don’t fret about your hunger and thirst levels affecting you. When you return, your performance in the game will be weakened due to this absence, but rest assured that neither your hunger nor thirst can cause your character’s death.
Over prolonged periods of hunger, your health gradually deteriorates. However, strangely enough, your Health Points (HP) won’t ever reach zero. To minimize the risk of death due to unexpected raids or dragon attacks when you need to log off, it’s advisable to seek a secure sanctuary for temporary protection.
Tip #8 – It Is Okay to Die
As a gamer, I’d say, “When it comes to perishing in this game, my belongings don’t vanish or scatter everywhere. Much like the games it resembles, my items will be kept safe within a sort of virtual tombstone, materializing right at the spot where I fell.
To get everything you need, simply engage with it. However, keep in mind that you’ll occasionally have to return to your gravestone, as death can occur quite a distance away from a quick travel spot. This could be a bit inconvenient.
Tip #9 – You Can Swap Staff Runes
As a gamer, when I’m wielding the staff as my weapon, it’s important for me to understand that its attacks are powered by the rune I currently have equipped. By design, it defaults to either the air or fire runes in my inventory, but if I want to switch between them, all I need to do is open my bag and right-click on the element I prefer. Easy peasy!
At present, you’ve got two options before you, each with distinct damage values and attack styles. Generally speaking, it would be wise to select the one that seems more beneficial to your situation. The ‘Air’ option appears to offer a greater variety of combat-related advantages, making it a potentially better choice for regular use.
Tip #10 – Enemy AI is Currently Bad
If you’re finding it tough due to persistent goblin assaults, consider using the landscape to your benefit. For instance, when you encounter the wise old man NPC at the village, you could leap over the gap in the dilapidated structure as a strategy.
Utilizing this will make you absolutely invulnerable to close-quarter combatants, or melee enemies, to put it simply. However, distant adversaries can still reach and attack you during your elevated position. Employ this tactic when you feel overpowered or struggle with handling large groups in general.
They’ll attempt to traverse the landscape wherever they can, making it a strategy known as “kiting” where you jump off a cliff or similar elevation repeatedly and run back up, if there are alternative routes nearby, in order to keep changing your position relative to them.
Here are all the suggestions we’ve got for you. We hope they will assist you in improving your skills and discovering everything this game currently offers, which might be likened to an early version or ‘alpha’, considering that a significant amount of content is still under development.
