Rush Hour 4: Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker’s Long-Awaited Comeback

Despite the title of the franchise being Rush Hour, it seems there’s a bit of a traffic jam in the making of its fourth installment, Rush Hour 4. This project has been under discussion for quite some time now, even causing star Jackie Chan to grow restless. Known for his role alongside Chris Tucker in the popular action-comedy series, Jackie is eagerly awaiting a swift resolution regarding the development of the fourth film, hoping that it will indeed move as swiftly as its title suggests. Fans have been anticipating another adventure for Agents Lee and Carter since the release of Rush Hour 3 in 2007. Could 2025 finally be the year this reunion takes place?

In a chat with Screen Rant to publicize “Karate Kids: Legends,” Jackie Chan was queried about the status of his cherished action-comedy series, “Rush Hour.” With candor, he expressed uncertainty about any developments regarding “Rush Hour 4.” It’s evident that Chan holds the “Rush Hour” series close to heart, as both he and fans eagerly anticipate his return in front of the camera for the fourth installment. He added:

1) “Inquire from the director, the studio, or the screenwriter. Time is of the essence! If we don’t act promptly, Chris Tucker and I could end up being elderly men starring in another Rush Hour installment. The script development is ongoing, but I’m eager to move forward with Rush Hour 4.

It appears that Jackie Chan isn’t just planning a new “Rush Hour” movie; he also wants to revive his popular American action comedy series, “Shanghai Noon,” alongside Owen Wilson. The pair previously starred in “Shanghai Knights” in 2003, and fans are eagerly awaiting the completion of their trilogy with “Shanghai Dawn.” This long-anticipated third installment has been in development for some time now.

Additionally, I’d like to make more movies similar to the series, such as Shanghai Twilight, Shanghai Dusk, and maybe even a Shanghai Sunrise.

Why Is ‘Rush Hour 4’ Taking So Long?

Regardless of receiving negative criticisms, Rush Hour 3 managed to become a significant box office success, earning more than $258 million worldwide in 2007. Consequently, discussions about a fourth sequel started right away. However, despite these early talks, a completed script for Rush Hour 4 was never produced. To this day, no clear explanation has been provided for the film’s cancellation over almost two decades ago. Nevertheless, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan’s love for the series remains unchanged.

For quite some time now, fans have frequently inquired about Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker reprising their roles in another “Rush Hour” movie. In 2022, Jackie Chan provided the latest update on the matter. He mentioned that he had held talks with an as-yet unnamed director regarding the script for part 4. He playfully hinted to Deadline about these discussions. However, unfortunately, the production of “Rush Hour 4” has again been stalled due to delays behind the scenes. This time, these delays were partially attributed to the joint strikes by SAG-AFTRA and WGA in 2023. Yet, there seems to be a more significant factor contributing to why “Rush Hour 4” has remained in development limbo for nearly 20 years.
