Russell Brand has entered his plea.
Around a month following the Metropolitan Police in London charging a former comedian turned right-wing social media figure with rape and sexual misconduct over incidents that happened between 1999 and 2005, he recently appeared in court to deny these charges.
On May 30th, Brand, who is married to Laura Brand and has three kids together, was spotted entering Southwark Crown Court attired in a black blazer, jeans, black aviator shades, and a slightly open, loose-fitting black dress shirt with some buttons undone.
According to local news sources, prosecutors have set a trial date for June 3, 2026, prior to which the defendant, aged 49, will be presented with charges such as rape, oral rape, indecent assault, and multiple sexual assault allegations against different women. He has pleaded not guilty to all five charges, and his conditional bail remains in effect, as ruled by the judge.
Brand’s not guilty plea comes after he initially spoke out to deny his charges on social media.
He clarified in a video posted on April 4 that during his younger, single years, prior to having his family including his lovely kids, he was quite reckless. He admitted to being foolish before finding the guidance of the Lord. He struggled with drug addiction, sexual compulsions and lacked common sense, but it’s important to note that he was never a rapist.
The actor from “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” penned an op-ed for The Guardian in 2007 where he openly acknowledged that he didn’t always behave respectfully towards women. But, in a recent social media video, he asserted that he had never been involved in any non-consensual activities.
The Investigations by Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service were initiated concerning accusations of rape and sexual assault against Brand, following a 2023 article in the Sunday Times and also after they received such allegations directly.
Special police officers are still offering assistance to the women who have filed complaints, as stated by Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, overseeing the investigation. He emphasized that the Metropolitan Police’s inquiry into this matter remains active, and encourages anyone impacted by this case or possessing relevant information to contact the police.
