During his tenure as Doctor Who showrunner from 2005 to 2010, Russell T Davies was responsible for many memorable storylines, characters, and villains. Among these, there was one choice he made that turned out to be his most brilliant:
During his term as Doctor Who showrunner from 2005 to 2010, Russell T Davies implemented many significant storylines, characters, and villains; however, one decision in particular stood out as a masterstroke on his part.
Although people made impressive designs, they were large and rough, but they felt more like robots. It’s like when you get a toy version of the character Dalek, it doesn’t truly represent a Dalek. If the size or shape is off, when you draw it, you might think, ‘That doesn’t look like a Dalek.’ I had to trust – this was an act of faith.
Even though Davies hasn’t reintroduced the Daleks during his current tenure as showrunner, they made several appearances when he previously worked on the science fiction series, earning them a favored position among fans.
Some memorable Dalek episodes during Russell T Davies’ time include “Dalek” from 2005, “Bad Wolf,” “The Parting of the Ways,” “Daleks in Manhattan” and “Evolution of the Daleks” from 2007, as well as “The Stolen Earth” and “Journey’s End” from 2008.

Last year, Doctor Ncuti Gatwa shared with Entertainment Weekly his thoughts on whether his version of the Time Lord would ever come across a Dalek on screen, stating: “There have been discussions about me never encountering a Dalek. I’d be furious if that were true!
After I wrap up my tenure as the Doctor, it had better include an encounter with a Dalek. It’d be utterly absurd for me to call myself ‘Doctor Who’ if I haven’t faced off against one of these iconic enemies!
Previously, Davies expressed that it might be beneficial to exclude the Daleks from Gatwa’s initial season due to their frequent appearances in Chibnall’s Christmas specials. He believes that after multiple Dalek stories, viewers are now anticipating them annually. Therefore, he thinks they require a well-deserved break.
As a die-hard fan of Doctor Who, I can’t help but wonder if we might soon encounter those iconic foes, the Daleks. However, Russell T. Davies himself has hinted that discussions are underway regarding who might take over as the next showrunner for our beloved series.
In his podcast, he also mentioned to Tennant: “My days as the young one are numbered, my dear. At some point, I’ll have to pace myself. That time will come. Last time it was Steven Moffat who took over, and that wasn’t even a full day’s work! ‘Alright, you’re done!’
