The directors Anthony and Joe Russo, known for helming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, have given an unexpected update regarding these films. Following the release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in 2019, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced a shift in its narrative trajectory. ‘Endgame’ marked the conclusion of that phase of the franchise and bid farewell to some of the most memorable cinematic heroes. However, the universe has faced challenges in defining its direction since then, with factors like the reception of films such as ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, which was met with mixed reviews, and the alteration of plans for ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ due to changes involving actor Jonathan Majors.
Instead of sticking with its initial grand multiverse narrative, Marvel opted to restructure the plotline around Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. To regain fan favor and add intrigue, Marvel also announced that The Russo Brothers would helm both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. This unexpected decision has left some viewers perplexed about how they’ll execute this tale, given it doesn’t seem to be a continuation of the story arc that’s been previously established. With its potential to be a monumental spectacle, this upcoming narrative, unlike Endgame or Infinity War, remains a mystery in terms of its content and direction.
Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars Will “Challenge Audiences”, Claim The Russo Brothers
There’s been talk that the movie “Avengers: Doomsday” might start filming by April, and it’s also said that the Russo Brothers will begin production without a completed script. Now, this part should definitely be taken with a pinch of salt, but given Marvel’s recent history of changes, it wouldn’t be unheard of. The Russo Brothers have been busy promoting their latest project, “The Electric State,” and when asked about the upcoming Avengers films, they confirmed to Deadline that “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” will be filmed sequentially in London, and they’re quite enthusiastic about it. When questioned about X-Men characters or Deadpool and Wolverine, they avoided the question, stating that any character from Marvel could potentially appear.
According to Joe Russo, everything will be filmed in London, and the scenes are scheduled closely one after another. He admits it’s a demanding task, but they’re not sure if they’ll make it through. They’re thrilled about it because they’ve discovered an intriguing angle for the story that they believe will test both audiences and themselves. It’s exhilarating to them, and it motivates them to get up and work on it every day.
Moreover, The Hollywood Reporter inquired about the future films from the brothers, and they hinted at what enthusiasts might look forward to in “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars”.
Joe Russo expressed his belief that these films will come as a shock to viewers,” implies that the movies will take people by surprise because of an innovative and daring approach to the storyline, which he believes will push the boundaries and test the audience.
It appears that The Russo Brothers are planning some significant moves with “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”. There’s been chatter that Chris Evans might reappear in future Avengers films, but those involved in the production are being tight-lipped about it. Interestingly, Chris Evans himself has publicly denied his participation in “Avengers: Doomsday”, which makes one wonder if he’s following in Andrew Garfield’s footsteps of misleading the press. Whether we’ll find out for certain whether he’s involved before the movies actually come out remains to be seen. For now, we can only speculate about his role, should he indeed be part of these films.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Benedict Cumberbatch has affirmed that Doctor Strange will make an appearance in both “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”. It’s highly probable that Tom Holland will reprise his role as Spider-Man for the Avengers movies, along with other key Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) characters who haven’t bid farewell or hung up their capes yet. However, considering the multiverse aspect of these films, it’s fair to say that almost any character could potentially join the cast!
