McFarlane exclaimed, “The power of Rust is growing from strength to strength!” He was thrilled about the game’s recent achievement, which surpassed its previous concurrent user record. Notably, this success came amidst the challenges posed by COVID-19 and other major events.

McFarlane goes on to celebrate the accomplishment by thanking the game’s players for their support.

Not long after McFarlane’s post, SteamDB disclosed that the game had achieved new highs, as Rust garnered approximately 260,000 simultaneous players. This is the first time the game has experienced such a large player count since its initial Early Access launch.

2024 saw McFarlane disclose additional information about Rust, such as its impressive statistic of over 5.5 million distinct players and the staggering total of more than 40 million hours spent playing the game, distributed across a whopping 325 million individual gaming sessions.
