Ryan Coogler Drops Major Hint About a Potential ‘Sinners’ Sequel!

Ryan Coogler’s R-rated vampire film has made a substantial $45.6 million over the Easter holiday weekend and taken the top spot, outperforming “A Minecraft Movie.

The horror-influenced period drama, titled “Justice at Stake,” brings director Ryan Coogler together once more with his stars Michael B. Jordan from both “Creed” and “Black Panther.” In this film, Jordan portrays twins Smoke and Stack. This movie topped the charts on its debut, pushing Warner Bros.’ “The Minecraft Movie” down to second place, as it earned an additional $41.3 million, bringing its worldwide total to approximately $720.8 million.

Now audiences hungry for more want to know: Will there be a Sinners sequel?

In an interview with EBONY, Coogler said, “That topic doesn’t cross my mind often. Recently, I’ve found myself focusing on franchise films, and I yearned for a change, to step outside of that realm.

Ryan Coogler started his career with the 2013 film “Fruitvale Station” and Jordan, followed by directing the 2015 sequel/spinoff of the Rocky franchise titled “Creed”. Over the past decade, he has directed blockbuster Marvel movies such as “Black Panther” in 2018 and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in 2022. In addition to these, he has executive produced sequels of “Creed”, the 2021 movie “Space Jam: A New Legacy”, Marvel spinoffs like “Ironheart” and “Eyes of Wakanda”, and a reboot of the series “The X-Files” that is currently in development.

Regarding the project “Sinners“, Coogler expressed his excitement, stating, “I was eager to collaborate on a movie that resonated deeply with me and offered a fresh, individual perspective, aiming to provide viewers with an experience that was both original and distinctive.

In the final scenes of “Sinners”, we find twin brothers Smoke and Stack (Jordan) meeting their demises. Stack gets bitten and transformed into a vampire by his lover, a bloodthirsty Mary (Hailele Steinfeld), while Smoke is killed in a shootout at a juke joint after Remmick (Jack O’Connell) and his band of vampires turn it into a slaughterhouse. Smoke finds peace in the hereafter with his staked wife Annie (Wunmi Mosaku) and their child, whereas Stack and Mary continue their existence – symbolically speaking – as suggested in an additional scene after the credits, which unfolds like an epilogue set many years later.

Coogler described his vision for the movie as being like a complete meal with a variety of courses: appetizers, main dishes, and dessert. He wanted each part of the film to be included and for it to feel whole and complete.

Currently showing in cinemas is the movie titled Sinners, starring a talented cast that includes Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Caton, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo.
