In a recent interview while promoting his new movie “Sinners,” Marvel director Ryan Coogler gave an update on the upcoming “Black Panther 3.” He hinted that fans won’t have to wait long before seeing this highly-anticipated film in theaters. As for Denzel Washington potentially joining the cast, Coogler mentioned that if Washington is keen on being part of the project, there will be a role tailored just for him. Although nothing is finalized yet, Coogler expressed his desire to make this collaboration happen.
Ever since I’ve admired Denzel Washington’s work, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to collaborate with him. I truly hope we can make it come true in this upcoming project. Provided he’s on board, I am confident that our collaboration will materialize. He’s a living legend and an influential figure who has guided many of us in our craft.”

Marvel Studios has not yet set a release date for Black Panther 3, but confirmed in December 2024 that the movie was being developed. Producer Nate Moore has mentioned several times that Black Panther 3 is still in its initial stages and production won’t start fully until after Sinners is released. Additionally, around the time of Captain America: Brave New World’s release, Moore hinted that Black Panther 3 might not come out until after Avengers: Secret Wars.
Instead of concrete details about Black Panther 3, fans are relying on the rumors circulating. There’s been talk that Marvel might recast T’Challa for the movie, but Moore has clarified in an interview with ComicBook that this isn’t true yet. “We’ll discuss it later this year,” he said, “but anything you read online isn’t accurate, mainly because we haven’t begun work on it.
Initiated the speculation about his potential role in Black Panther 3, Denzel Washington did so by suggesting that Ryan Coogler wrote a part for him in the movie. However, after making the secret public, he expressed regret and has since remained silent on the matter. Despite some uncertainty surrounding Washington’s involvement due to comments from Coogler and Moore, it seems likely that he will appear in the film, given his recent project choices. With retirement approaching, Washington is carefully selecting the projects he takes on, mentioning specific directors like Coogler with whom he’d like to work. Therefore, it appears that the stars may align, leading Washington to join the cast of Black Panther 3, though fans might have to wait a few years before witnessing his performance.
There’s no end to the characters with roles that could suit Washington’s exceptional talent within Marvel Universe. Recently, leaked MCU concept art hinted at a character named King T’Chanda, possibly set in Wakanda from either ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars’. It’s plausible that this role is being considered for Washington, breathing life into a strong and resolute leader. Regardless of the character he ends up playing in the MCU, it seems likely that his appearance will be limited to just one film. If Washington plans to retire soon, he may not be keen on signing up for multiple movies.
