If you’re a Jedi, then Ryan Gosling is a Jedi… well, maybe.
Reports indicate that the actress famous for playing Barbie could be set to appear in a fresh Star Wars film, penned and helmed by director Shawn Levy, who is known for his work on Deadpool and Wolverine movies, as per various sources.
As for the specifics of the action-packed film, they’re yet to be clarified; however, Ryan joining the crew could significantly accelerate the project, which Scott Levy has been meticulously nurturing since 2022, even enlisting screenwriter Jonathan Tropper from “This Is Where I Leave You,” propelling it forward at an unprecedented pace, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
According to reports, there’s a plan for a new film within the Star Wars series, similar to the 2018 release, Solo: A Star Wars Story. This series has expanded recently with Disney+ TV shows like The Mandalorian, The Acolyte, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
TopMob News has reached out to reps for Gosling, Levy and Lucasfilm, but has not heard back.
Though it remains undecided if Ryan Gosling, famously known for his role in La La Land, will actually switch sides, he has been vocal about the kind of characters he intends to portray in future projects. Sharing two daughters, Esmeralda Amada (10) and Amada Lee (8), with Eva Mendes, Gosling is open about his acting preferences.
He shared with The Wall Street Journal in May 2024 that he avoids roles which might lead him into a troubled state. He expressed his desire to sense the mood at home and choose what seems best for everyone. His decisions are primarily made together with Eva, always considering the well-being of their family first.
He commented, “I aim to create work that’s inclusive, not tailored to a single viewer. For a long time, I was merely working to earn a living, but it’s only now that I feel I’ve grasped the chance to produce the kind of films that ignited my passion for cinema.
It’s evident that Gosling prioritizes his family above his career, as shown by his actions. Here are some endearing statements he has shared about fatherhood. Continue reading for more touching insights.
Ryan Gosling has assumed various roles throughout his career, yet fatherhood wasn’t something he had contemplated until he encountered his co-star and current partner, Eva Mendes, on the set of “The Place Beyond the Pines”. In an interview with GQ in May 2024, he shared that prior to meeting her, he hadn’t given much thought to having children. However, upon encountering Eva, he realized that he didn’t want to become a father without her by his side. As they portrayed a family in “The Place Beyond the Pines”, there were instances where he felt their pretend family wasn’t enough, and he wished for it to be real life. He acknowledged that having such a life with Eva would be incredibly fortunate for him.
Ryan found out that becoming a father exceeded his expectations, just as everyone says. In 2016, he also shared that while you can imagine the change, nothing compares to actually experiencing it. He went on to say that he’s fortunate because his kids are perfect, Eva is an incredible mother, and it feels like a wonderful dream come true for him.
In my personal journey as a lifestyle expert, I’m wholly devoted to understanding and nurturing the unique individuals that are my daughters, Esmeralda and Amada. As I shared with WSJ. Magazine in May 2024, they each possess such vibrant and individual personalities that it’s an exciting adventure getting to know them better every day.
Being their father is more than a role; it’s about being present, supportive, and helping them grow into the incredible people they are destined to be. I strive to be the best version of myself for them, acknowledging my flaws but always pushing towards becoming the man they truly deserve.
Ryan decided to take a break from acting and focus on spending quality time with his family, as he didn’t want to miss any precious moments with them. This is why he did not appear in any films between 2018 and 2022. In an interview with Variety in February 2024, he explained this decision, saying that his priorities have shifted, and he now wants to be present for his children because he knows their childhood years will pass quickly. He feels the clock is ticking, and he doesn’t want to waste any of the time he has left, ensuring he spends it with the ones he loves most.
Ryan chooses not to accept every acting opportunity that comes his way as he prioritizes spending time with his family. In an interview with WSJ Magazine, he mentioned, “I don’t want roles that might lead me into a dark place.” He explained further that these days, he makes decisions considering what is best for his wife Eva and their family first. This change in approach seems to have begun with his 2016 film, “La La Land,” where he involved his kids in the daily piano practice, dancing, and singing. His children’s interest in Barbie, specifically their lack of interest in Ken, also played a role in him taking on the character of Ken in the 2023 movie “Barbie.
Ryan’s daughters have paid him a visit on set, but it’s been known that Esmeralda and Amada didn’t fully understand his profession. Interestingly enough, he once told a story about when they saw him portray Neil Armstrong in the 2018 film “First Man”. To quote Ryan, he said, “I was wearing the space suit, pretending to launch on set. I think they believe I’m an astronaut. My eldest daughter even mentioned the moon recently and asked if that’s where I work.
Absolutely, his children are among his most dedicated supporters and visited him on set during the filming of Barbie. Ryan shared with Extra in July 2023 that there were certain scenes where he required their assistance. On one specific day, they came to the set, cheering him on.
However, they’re not shy about expressing their honest opinions regarding his roles. As he explained, “They found it strange why I wanted to play Ken.” They don’t wish to play with Ken themselves, so they questioned why he would want to do so as well. He responded, “That’s exactly why!” They have been supportive, but still a bit puzzled about the ‘Ken-fusion’.
In various comedies, Ryan has made an appearance, but his daughters have also had some amusingly spontaneous moments. For instance, during a trip to the Louvre in France, Amada reportedly executed what he called a “power move.” This is as recalled by him on The Tonight Show in 2022. “We saw Winged Victory, admired Venus de Milo, and were standing before the Mona Lisa when she turned around and said, ‘This museum? [Thumbs down]’,” the star of Crazy, Stupid, Love explained. “I asked her why, and she replied, ‘Because it’s not good.'”
As a lifestyle expert, allow me to share one of my own anecdotes that might resonate with many parents out there. Much like Ryan, I too have found myself multitasking between my responsibilities and entertainment. You see, I have a 2-year-old and a nearly 4-year-old, so just like Ryan, I’m not watching anything that doesn’t hold the attention of my young ones – in this case, perhaps a talking tiger! For instance, when I needed to prepare for my late-night show, I found myself tuning into the 2018 NBA Finals. But hey, parenting is all about finding creative ways to keep everyone entertained and engaged!
He’s thankful for his career, but what truly touches his heart is how it brought him to Eva and fatherhood. In acceptance of an award at the 2024 Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Ryan expressed, ‘I got to meet my dream girl, Eva Mendes, and have two dream children. I always wanted to make movies, and now it seems like movies have made my life into a beautiful dream.’
