Since the last Star Wars movie, “The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019, there’s been a break. But the franchise is getting ready to storm back into cinemas! Next year brings us Jon Favreau’s “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, and we now know which Star Wars film will follow suit on the release schedule. At a panel today during Star Wars Celebration Japan, it was officially announced that director Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie will hit theaters on May 28, 2027. This film, titled “Star Wars: Starfighter”, stars Ryan Gosling and is a standalone story happening approximately five years after the events of “The Rise of Skywalker”. Production for “Star Wars: Starfighter” begins this fall.
During the panel discussion, Ryan Gosling shared the stage to talk about the project. He commended the script, highlighting its compelling story and unique characters. He further added that the narrative is brimming with emotion and excitement, and he’s eager to collaborate with Levy. The audience was given a peek into Gosling’s long-standing Star Wars admiration; it turns out his mother had sent in a photo of his Star Wars themed bed sheets from when he was just 5 years old. Jokingly, Gosling admitted that he might have been dreaming about Star Wars even before he actually watched the movies.
This is a developing story.
