Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie Series Gets Teaser

As a seasoned gamer and horror enthusiast with a penchant for unraveling intricate narratives, I must say the trailer for Grotesquerie has piqued my interest like never before. The eerie atmosphere reminiscent of American Horror Story combined with religious undertones promises an immersive experience that I can’t wait to dive into.

The first teaser trailer for Ryan Murphy’s latest series, Grotesquerie has arrived and horror fans might just want to brace themselves for a strange and mysterious journey into darkness. As Niecy Nash-Betts’ Detective Lois Tryon says in chilling teaser’s voiceover just before things begin to get decidedly weird and unsettling, “I don’t know how it started. It’s like a hole opened up in the world to the center of nothingness.” You can check the teaser — which is evocative of American Horror Story as well as full of religious imagery and tones — out for yourself in the video below. The series is set to debut on FX on September 25th.

In the chilling mystery of “Grotesquerie”, a spate of gruesome crimes has left a tight-knit community on edge, with Detective Lois Tryon finding an unsettling familiarity in these crimes, as if they were meant to provoke or tease her. At home, Lois battles with a strained relationship with her daughter, a husband requiring long-term care, and her own internal struggles. With no leads and unsure of who to trust, she seeks aid from Sister Megan (Michaela Diamond), a nun and journalist for the Catholic Guardian. Despite witnessing mankind’s darkest aspects, Sister Megan remains hopeful about humanity’s potential goodness. Lois, however, is convinced that evil is taking over. As they piece together fragments of evidence, Lois and Sister Megan find themselves entangled in a twisted web that only raises more enigmas than solutions.

In addition to Courtney B. Vance as Marshall Tryon, Lesley Manville as Nurse Redd, Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Father Charlie, and Raven Goodwin as Merrit Tryon, the series Grotesquerie also features Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. While details about his character are currently kept secret, Kelce has hinted that his role in Grotesquerie will be significant, referring to it as “big”.

Earlier on his podcast, New Heights, Kelce expressed being genuinely surprised and taken aback when he was offered such a significant role because it’s a key part of the show. He mentioned that the person seemed very certain that he could handle it, which boosted his confidence during their first conversation. So, he hopes not to disappoint him with his performance.

The show titled “Grotesquerie” was developed and produced by Murphy in collaboration with Jon Robin Baitz (of “Feud: Capote Vs. the Swans”) and Joe Baken. Max Winkler, Alexis Martin Woodall, Elegance Bratton, and Murphy take turns directing episodes throughout the 10-episode season. Murphy, Woodall, Baitz, Baken, Winkler, Nash-Betts, Vance, Peter Liguori, Nissa Diederich, Eric Kovtun, and Scott Robertson are all involved in executive production for this series.

Grotesquerie debuts Wednesday, September 25th on FX.
