Ryan Reynolds Pokes Fun at Neil Patrick Harris for Becoming the New Deadpool (Sort Of)

Ryan Reynolds is playfully mocking Neil Patrick Harris, as he has joined the Marvel family by lending his voice to a character in an upcoming virtual reality game titled “Deadpool VR” for Meta Quest 3/3S.

In a video posted on what used to be Ryan Reynolds’ Twitter account, he’s seen sitting at a computer, dressed as the character from Neil Patrick Harris’ TV show, Doogie Howser. He pens a diary entry while sporting that look, and writes, “Today I picked up a lesson about anatomy they don’t cover in medical school – specifically about buttholes.” With a grin, he adds, “People who steal your signature role are the absolute worst kind of ‘buttholes.'” Glancing affectionately at a Meta Quest, he clarifies that it’s not the hardware to blame, and admits that Harris is an “extraordinary actor with the soothing voice of an angel.

The video takes a humorous jab at the character of Harris as Doogie Howser, where he portrayed a teenage doctor and prodigy who juggled his medical career with everyday life between 1989 to 1993. Afterward, it presents some gameplay clips from the upcoming Meta Quest’s Deadpool video game, comically remarking “Deadpool… Ryan Reynolds is ‘Stepping Away with Elegance.'”

The video playfully mocks Harris’ portrayal of Doogie Howser, a teenage physician from 1989 to 1993, and then shows footage from the upcoming Deadpool game on Meta Quest, humorously commenting that “Deadpool… Ryan Reynolds is ‘Moving On Gracefully.”)

The highly anticipated virtual reality game, titled “Marvel’s Deadpool VR,” was officially revealed by Meta during Summer Game Fest 2025 on Saturday. This action-packed title is being developed jointly by Twisted Pixel and Oculus Studios, in partnership with Marvel Games. Players will find themselves donning Deadpool’s perspiration-soaked, form-fitting suit, transforming them into the wisecracking, gun-toting antihero in all his acrobatic, gun-wielding, over-the-top splendor.

The upcoming virtual reality game is set to showcase Deadpool’s unique combination of humor, acrobatics, and fighting. As Game Director at Twisted Pixel, Dan Bullock shared his excitement about this development, stating, “It’s been a while since Deadpool has starred in his own game, but we can finally reveal that we’ve been diligently working on giving him a leading role in Marvel’s Deadpool VR.” The game is slated for release this year, although the specific launch date remains undisclosed.

Deadpool VR Lets Gamers Battle It Out as Deadpool

In Marvel’s Deadpool VR, expect a brand-new tale where Deadpool gets sucked into Mojoworld and immediately sets out to become rich. After blindly agreeing to a shady deal without checking the details, he is dispatched to tour various Marvel Universe landmarks, engaging in fights with legendary bad guys at each stop.

The game previews that players, assuming the role of Deadpool, will have the opportunity to perform some of the character’s outrageous feats, such as striking someone while clutching a grenade, retrieving their detonated arm and hurling it at foes, and even pinning an adversary’s face against a spinning propeller.

This year, we can expect the virtual reality version of Marvel’s Deadpool to hit the market, with further information about it being unveiled in the upcoming months.
