Ryan Reynolds Shares How Deadpool Honors Rob Delaney's Late Son

As someone who has followed Ryan Reynolds‘ career for quite some time, I must say that his recent tribute to Rob Delaney and his late son Henry is truly heartwarming. It speaks volumes about the kind of person Ryan is, not just as an actor, but as a human being. His ability to pay homage in such a meaningful way, while also keeping humor close at hand, is commendable.

Ryan Reynolds is paying tribute to someone very special.

The actor who portrayed Deadpool posted about the heartfelt tribute he paid to his friend and co-star, Rob Delaney (known for playing Peter in the Marvel films), by dedicating the comic book “Deadpool & Wolverine” to Rob’s son Henry, who tragically passed away at the age of 2 in January 2018 after fighting brain cancer.

On Instagram, Ryan expressed that Rob Delaney had won our hearts with PeterPool (formerly Sugarbear), and skillfully modernized the concept of a moose-knuckle, making it stylish AND functional. He also hinted that if theories are accurate, he could be the next Anchor Being.

However, the 47-year-old remarked, Rob is not just known by all; he’s secretly one of the funniest people I’ve come across in a subtle way.

If you watched the credits of the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, you might come across a credit dedicated to ‘Henry Delaney’. Ryan explained that Henry was Rob’s son, and tragically, he passed away due to a brain tumor in 2018. This happened just as they were wrapping up the production of Deadpool 2.

Furthermore, despite expressing regret for not adding a tribute to Henry in the closing scenes of the film, he highlighted a positive outcome: “More individuals are becoming aware of Henry’s involvement in the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, as this movie surpassed the billion-dollar mark globally at the box office.”

He added, “And at long last, father and son are sharing the same screen.”

Ryan, who has daughters James (age 9), Inez (age 7), Betty (age 4), and son Olin (born in 2023) with Blake Lively, also acknowledged Rob’s book “A Heart That Works” from 2022. He praised it as an exceptional work of writing that delves into the vibrant hues of emotions Henry’s passing unveiled.

Ever since Henry passed away, Rob has been candid about the challenges he and his wife Leah have experienced, while also taking care of their remaining three sons, including the newest one who was born in December 2018.

Last year, Rob shared on Instagram about the challenges we faced taking care of our one-year-old son, Henry, who had a complicated tracheotomy. Although there are moments when I long for those days, I would gladly give anything to still be doing it daily. I truly miss caring for him. -Our beloved son, Henry.

As a devoted admirer, I find myself compelled to share Henry’s heart-wrenching story. Diagnosed with a tumor mere days after his first birthday, Henry embarked on a courageous journey that required treatment to excise the tumor and subsequently endured cranial nerve damage severe enough for a tracheotomy. Despite these challenges, the morning of Rob’s birthday in 2018 saw our beloved hero take his final breath.

Nonetheless, Rob remains deeply grateful to those who have extended their kindness, particularly following the release of his published work.

“The volume of letters and messages I’ve gotten from other bereaved parents and siblings is completely unbelievable,” he shared on Instagram in January. “It feels very strange to not be able to reply to all of them.”

In a heartfelt continuation, the Catastrophe speaker expressed, “I’d like to reach out to every parent and sibling who has reached out to me and let them know they are deeply loved.”

He penned, “Doesn’t it provide a sense of comfort and justice to pen about your deceased child? To utter their name? To have it documented and pass it on to another? To care for your child in some manner, albeit physically absent? You adore them. And they cherish you.”
