As a seasoned gamer with years of immersive experiences under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement upon hearing about the performance details for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl on Xbox Series X and Series S. With a life filled with countless hours spent in virtual worlds, I’ve come to appreciate the intricacies of game development and the challenges that lie in delivering an optimal gaming experience across various platforms.
As a devoted fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl on Xbox Series X, knowing that it will offer both 30 FPS and 60 FPS options. However, the performance details for the game on the less powerful Xbox Series S have been a mystery up until now. Although the exact frame rate hasn’t been confirmed yet for the console version, GSC Game World’s lead producer Slava Lukyanenka has given us a glimpse of what we might be able to expect.
Speaking in a recent interview with Wccftech, after reiterating that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will have 30 FPS and 60 FPS modes on Xbox Series X (with resolution targets for both modes still unconfirmed), Lukyanenka also touched on the Xbox Series S version, confirming that it is currently run at about 35 FPS. As per Lukyanenka, however, that isn’t necessarily going to be the final number, with GSC Game World still working (with assistance from Microsoft) to further optimize the game.
Lukyanenka stated that on the Xbox Series X, there are two operational modes for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Performance Mode and Quality Mode. Performance Mode offers a smooth 60 frames per second gameplay with slightly altered graphics compared to Quality Mode, which showcases stunning reflections and high-resolution textures at 30 frames per second. The team aims to deliver a comparable experience on the Xbox Series S by blending these two methods. Currently, they have managed to achieve approximately 35 frames per second on the Xbox Series S, but there is still room for improvement in optimization.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is due out on November 20 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
