Sackboy is Reportedly Being Left Out of Logo With PlayStation Mascots

Instead of featuring its iconic PlayStation mascots in logos throughout their published games, such as first-party titles on PS5 and PC ports, Sony appears to be excluding Sackboy from this tradition. This observation was made by social media user realradec, who noticed that the most recent version of the PlayStation logo at the start of the Until Dawn movie does not include the character from LittleBigPlanet.

In the given scenario, The X post highlights that characters such as Astro Boy, Ratchet, Clank, Nathan Drake, and Aloy are all there, but not Sackboy. To provide some contrast, a snapshot was shared from the 2023 film ‘Gran Turismo,’ which does feature Sackboy alongside other mascots.

Sony has remained silent on the issue, but given the age of the LittleBigPlanet series and the lack of a new mainline game since the PS3 era, it appears that Sony may be moving away from their classic mascot. The most recent significant release featuring Sackboy as a playable character was the 2020 platformer titled Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

In more recent years, one of the standout characters from PlayStation has been Astro Bot, largely due to the rave reviews and high sales of its 2024 platform game. However, it didn’t gain popularity overnight; in fact, Astro Bot had already starred in two well-received games prior to this: “Astro Bot Rescue Mission,” a PlayStation VR title, and “Astro’s Playroom,” which came bundled with the PS5 and served as a technical demonstration.

Following the triumph of Astro Bot, head of developer Team Asobi, Nicolas Doucet, advised other developers not to shy away from creating smaller-scale titles. At GDC 2025, Doucet emphasized that modern players frequently have multiple games in their queues due to digital distribution and sales promotions like those offered by Steam, as well as bundles such as Humble Bundle.

Doucet mentioned that right from the beginning, our approach was to create a concise game, even a smaller one. In simpler terms, we’re developing something manageable enough for us to have complete control over it. From a developer’s perspective, this is crucial. However, this also appeals to players, many of whom have a pile of unfinished games due to their busy schedules. So, the allure of a game that can be completed becomes quite compelling.

At the same function, Doucet also discussed various early versions of the game _Astro Bot_, including one that depicted the now-famous character undergoing dismemberment. As per Doucet, the game underwent a total of 23 revisions before it was presented to upper management.

In a previous version of the game, Astro made a selfless sacrifice for the team at its conclusion. As the credits played, the creators aimed to convey a deeply emotional scene of rebuilding Astro. Doucet described how in this early design, Astro would be depicted as completely dismantled, with only his torso remaining without a head.
