Sakamoto Days Creator Hypes the Anime’s Opening With Special Art

As an ardent anime enthusiast with a penchant for action-packed series and a soft spot for dark humor, I am thoroughly thrilled about the upcoming release of “Sakamoto Days” on Netflix next year! With its intriguing plotline, top-notch animation by TMS Entertainment, and a stellar cast led by Tomokazu Sugita as the protagonist Taro Sakamoto, this show promises to be a riveting watch.

2025’s highly anticipated first major anime debut, “Sakamoto Days,” is just about here! This exciting new series will be available on Netflix starting January next year. Originating from the popular manga of the same name by Yuto Suzuki, the story revolves around a former assassin trying to protect his family from his past reemerging, but this time with no resort to violence.

This year’s sensation Dandadan has been captivating viewers, but it looks like next in line to make waves in the anime sphere is Sakamoto Days. Fresh details about the series are emerging almost weekly, with fans recently getting a sneak peek this month through a new trailer. This trailer also introduced the show’s fresh opening theme song from Vaundy. However, the hype surrounding the OP doesn’t end there; Yuto Suzuki is adding fuel to the fire by revealing an original artwork for the song.

Yuto Suzuki Unveils a New Original Sakamoto Days X Vaundy Drawing

To celebrate Vaundy’s new OP for Sakamoto Days, Suzuki has penned a brand new drawing of the show’s protagonist, Taro Sakamoto, and his two employees, Shin Asakura and Lu Shaotang (via Comic Natalie). The art depicts a regular day at Sakamoto’s convenience store, with the retired hitman eating a cup of instant noodles. To the right of Taro Sakamoto is a poster for the musician Vaundy.

Previously stated, the fresh OP (Opening Theme) by Vaundy entitled “Hashire SAKAMOTO” was revealed in the recently released show trailer. Moreover, the new trailer not only presented the song but also tantalized viewers with some breathtaking action scenes. In these sequences, Taro Sakamoto is seen adjusting to combat using his new physique, which is reminiscent of a father, while subtly suggesting his past as a formidable assassin.

The show is helmed by Masaki Watanabe as its director, while TMS Entertainment manages the animation. Tomokazu Sugita will lend his voice to the character Taro Sakamoto, with a stellar supporting cast comprising Nobunaga Shimazaki, Natsuki Hanae, Saori Hayami, Ryouta Suzuki, and Taku Yashiro.

Sakamoto Days Will Release in Two Parts

Starting January 11th on Netflix, Sakamoto Days begins its run. Excitement abounds as fans learn the first season will span across two segments: one for Winter 2025 followed by a brief hiatus in Spring before the second part is unveiled in Summer 2025.

The description for the series goes as follows: “Sakamoto has been living a tranquil life away from the underworld, managing a local store with his charming family. However, due to a lack of exercise, he’s gained some weight. Suddenly, someone from his past reappears, presenting him with an irresistible proposition: either rejoin the assassin world or face death!
