Salem’s Lot – TRAILER

As a child of the 80s, I can still vividly remember the chilling impact that the original miniseries of Salem’s Lot had on me and countless others. The dark, brooding atmosphere, the suspenseful build-up, and the sheer terror of vampires were all part of the experience that made us hide under our blankets, peeking through our fingers at the TV screen.

Following the massive success of ‘Carrie’ in 1976, studios were eagerly seeking Stephen King’s new books, and the next one to make it to the screen was a TV adaptation of Salem’s Lot in 1979. Directed by Tobe Hooper, who also directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it sent shivers down the spines of many schoolchildren who had stayed up to watch it or caught it on their home TV. Now, over 40 years later, it’s being given a new life on the big screen, with the first trailer for Salem’s Lot recently released.

Tormented by a traumatic event from his youth, novelist Ben Mears revisits his old home of Jerusalem’s Lot, hoping to find creative fuel for his upcoming work. However, he soon uncovers that the town is under attack by a ravenous vampire and its faithful companion.

In his own words, writer Gary Dauberman shared that he aims to reinvigorate fear into the modern rendition of Salem’s Lot by portraying vampires as genuinely terrifying once more. He seeks to distance himself from the more alluring and romanticized depictions of the undead that have dominated pop culture for over two decades, thanks to various works like Interview with the Vampire, Twilight, and The Vampire Diaries.

In a fresh take, the cinematic rendition of Stephen King’s 1975 top-selling novel “Salem’s Lot” brings together the creative forces behind the blockbuster horror series “The Conjuring” franchise and the hit movies “It”. Gary Dauberman assumes the roles of writer, director, and executive producer for this film. The production team includes James Wan and Michael Clear from Atomic Monster; Roy Lee from Vertigo; and Mark Wolper.

Featuring Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, John Benjamin Hickey, Nicholas Crovetti, Jordan Preston Carter, William Sadler, Spencer Treat Clark, Cade Woodward, Debra Christofferson, Pilou Asbæl in prominent roles.

Salem’s Lot will be released in the UK on 11th October 2024
