Sally Lindsay Reveals Shocking Reason for Ignoring Coronation Street for 19 Years!

What’s the view from your sofa?

In my home, I’m constantly keeping multiple candles lit. Lately, I bought a brand-new sofa, and my TV is positioned above the brick fireplace.

I always keep numerous candles burning in my house. Recently, I purchased a new sofa, with my television placed on top of the brick fireplace.

Who controls the remote at home?

As a cinephile penning this review, I find myself often asked about the genesis of the intriguing character of Jean White, the antiques dealer in ‘The Madame Blanc Mysteries’. The inspiration for this captivating figure was drawn from various sources, including my own experiences and observations.

In the past, we traveled to Majorca and encountered a woman named Jan, who is an expert in antiques on British television shows. She’s incredibly knowledgeable yet remarkably down-to-earth, which I found intriguing. Typically, detectives are male and have experienced something that left them emotionally scarred. It struck me: what if we had someone utterly ordinary as a detective?

Do you like collecting antiques?

I have a passion for accumulating artwork and behind-the-scenes photos. Among my treasures is an authentic snapshot capturing Sid James and Kenneth Williams sharing tea on the Carry on Camping set. Betty Driver, a familiar face from Coronation Street, was more than just an acquaintance to me; I held her in high regard. In fact, I possess a large-framed image of her visage.

Do you still watch Coronation Street after playing Shelley Unwin?

I haven’t seen it since I moved, as keeping up with each episode requires a significant commitment due to the intricate details that could be easily missed.

What have you been watching on TV?

One of my secret indulgences is the show Botched, and I’ve recently wrapped up watching Matlock. Kathy Bates delivers an outstanding performance in it, portraying a retired lawyer who re-enters the workforce. As you reach a certain stage in life, you become less noticeable, which can be seen as a superpower because people don’t give you the same attention they used to when you were younger.

Do you feel invisible at the age of 51?

Absolutely. As a young woman, you might have had concerns about passing by construction sites and similar places. However, now those worries seem to be a thing of the past, which is truly wonderful.

A significant shift is taking place among women of our generation regarding hormone replacement therapy and menopause. Compared to my mother’s era, open conversations about these topics were less common, and women typically endured in silence. However, nowadays, I have yet to meet a woman close to my age who hasn’t brought up the subject. It’s crucial for us to discuss these issues so that future generations will find it easier to navigate menopause.

Do you think older people are well represented on TV?

Let’s envision seniors enjoying life to the fullest, having a fantastic time! The debut scene of the upcoming series, The Madame Blanc Mysteries, features Robin [Askwith] and Sue [Holderness] on jet skis, donning swimsuits. This was their leisure activity from the previous year during their free time. A photo I captured served as my inspiration!

Additionally, there seems to be a hint of a mature romantic relationship between Jean and her partner Dom (portrayed by Steve Edge). However, one might wonder what is the reason behind their decision to keep this affection hidden.

The first time I encountered my spouse, he was 38 years old and had two kids already. Since he arrived as a package deal of three, we found ourselves needing to take our relationship seriously right away. Dom and Jean are both in their late forties, preferring not to have children or live together, and neither feels the need to prove themselves to others. As such, they’ve chosen to keep their bond hidden, allowing them time to explore their feelings before making their relationship public knowledge.

You’re talking to us from your writing shed. What’s it like?

In the heart of my sanctuary, I’ve transformed it into a tranquil teal oasis, adorned with plush cushions – a project I tackled during lockdown. Here, I find solace amidst my tools, including a colossal computer, a cozy armchair, lamps casting warm glows, and a bookshelf that houses my treasure trove of knowledge. The topmost tier of this bookshelf is dedicated to the intriguing murder weapons and enigmatic artifacts from The Madame Blanc Mysteries series – items off-limits to prying eyes. This space, my private domain, offers me a sanctuary where I can immerse myself in my pursuits undisturbed.
