For several years now, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has been providing intriguing perspectives on generative AI. Notably, becoming a father in February stands out as his greatest achievement over his professional accomplishments at OpenAI.
However, what might be even more intriguing is Altman’s statement that his children may not surpass the intelligence of AI, as expressed during OpenAI’s latest podcast (as reported by Business Insider). The CEO made this assertion.
My children won’t surpass AI in intelligence. Instead, they’ll develop abilities far beyond what we had as kids, capable of accomplishments we can’t yet fathom, and exceptionally proficient in utilizing artificial intelligence.
The leader expressed a hopeful perspective regarding AI’s influence on future generations, emphasizing his focus on the benefits that young people might derive from the technology, rather than the potential losses.
According to Anthropic’s CEO Dario Amodei, AI could potentially take up about half of entry-level white collar jobs for Generation Z, leaving them jobless. Contrarily, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has refuted this claim as sensationalist, indicating that he generally disagrees with many of Amodei’s statements.
It’s intriguing that Huang anticipates coding may no longer be a viable career choice for future generations. In his view, careers in biology, agriculture, and manufacturing could instead offer promising opportunities for young people.
According to Sam Altman:
“I don’t think my kids will ever be bothered by the fact that they’re not smarter than AI.”
In a striking declaration following his recent assertion, he stated that “ChatGPT surpasses the power of any human who has ever existed.” Notably, Altman acknowledged potential problems that might emerge as AI grows in popularity and widespread use.
It’s my guess that there may be challenges ahead as people form potentially tricky relationships in this context. Society might need to establish fresh boundaries or guidelines. However, the benefits could be substantial.
OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman
Altman admitted that he leaned significantly on AI assistance for tips on caring for his newborn, and suggested that he might not have been able to manage without it.
Surprisingly, the executive expressed concerns, suggesting that despite the high level of trust placed in ChatGPT, it’s important to remember that AI can sometimes produce false information or “hallucinate”.
