Sam Altman wants OpenAI to be the Microsoft of AI, with a subscription-based operating system built on ChatGPT

Previously, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, unveiled his grand AI blueprint, estimating it would take approximately $7 trillion and numerous years to construct 36 semiconductor factories and additional data centers. This ambitious goal led TMSC executives to label Altman as a “podcasting visionary,” considering the proposal seemed impractical.

In line with his grand vision, the executive has revealed his upcoming strategy for OpenAI. The organization aims to evolve into a central AI subscription service. This service is expected to incorporate the seamless user experience of ChatGPT, as detailed by @vitrupo on their X platform (previously known as Twitter).

According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman:

Additionally, our subscription plan will encompass several crucial components. Primarily, we aim to construct a more intelligent system. Furthermore, these platforms could be likened to future devices and systems.

Altman acknowledges that OpenAI has yet to determine which API or SDK their platform will utilize, but he assures that they are committed to finding a solution. Furthermore, he emphasizes the ultimate objective of this project is to foster an “extraordinary level of wealth generation” for those who choose to develop on it.

Ever since its debut, I’ve noticed that ChatGPT by OpenAI has transformed into something of an all-purpose tool for me. It’s come a long way from its early stages when it was more like a chatbot that would spit out text based on user prompts without much nuance or understanding.

The chatbot now comes equipped with a powerful AI-driven search tool called ChatGPT Search, a potential competitor to well-established search engines like Google and Bing. Additionally, it includes OpenAI’s cutting-edge models, boasting advanced reasoning abilities that enable them to tackle the toughest challenges more effectively.

This announcement coincides with the ChatGPT creator’s strategy to transform their profit-driven branch into a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), but so far, Microsoft, who holds the largest stake in OpenAI at approximately $13.5 billion, hasn’t endorsed this proposal yet.

According to a recent update, Microsoft and OpenAI are currently renegotiating their expansive, multi-billion dollar partnership deal. Intriguingly, it seems that Microsoft might be prepared to relinquish some ownership of AI firm, in order to maintain access to its sophisticated technology beyond the 2030 deadline.
