24-year-old Sam Gardiner, a contestant from the second season of “Race Across the World,” passed away recently.
On the fateful day of Monday, 26th May, I met with a tragic accident involving my car, just outside Manchester. Alone in the vehicle, I was transported to the hospital, but unfortunately, I succumbed to my injuries on Thursday, 29th May.
In a statement, Gardiner’s parents, Jo and Andrew, expressed their deep sorrow, stating that Sam departed from them prematurely.
Even though no words can truly express the brightness, happiness, and vitality he added to our lives, we cherish the memories that made him unique.
In the year 2020, Gardiner, a skilled landscaper, made an appearance alongside his mom Jo, on the show “Race Across the World.” During this competition, they were caught on camera traversing through the beautiful landscapes of South America.
More recently, he had been employed on the western coast of Scotland, but as per his uncle’s account, he journeyed to Greater Manchester for a family birthday gathering.
As a movie reviewer reflecting on the heartbreaking news, I can’t help but express my deepest condolences to the friends and family of Sam, our dear participant from Race Across the World. Tragically, he lost his life in a car accident this week.
Sam was more than just a contestant; he was a beacon of positivity, resilience, and inspiration for all who knew him, both behind and in front of the camera. His journey on our show was not just a travel experience but a deeply transformative one, as it brought profound change to his life and that of his mother, Jo.
The bond between Sam and Jo was palpable on screen, and their shared adventure will always be remembered fondly by us all. May Sam rest in peace, knowing he touched the lives of so many with his courage and kindness. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
Sam embarked on the seven-week journey with boundless enthusiasm, affection, and resolve, which led them to experience exhilarating escapades from Mexico to Argentina. Their shared experiences captured hearts worldwide, strengthening their unique connection along the way.
Ever since being part of the Race Across the World family, both Sam and I have formed a special bond. On behalf of myself, the BBC, our dedicated production team, and my fellow cast members, I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Andrew, Jo (his mother), William, Charlie (his brothers), Justine (his step-mother), his family, and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.
In the meantime, one of the victors from the show where Gardiner was featured, Emon Choudhury, expressed his sorrow on Instagram with these words: “It’s with a heavy heart that I announce my beloved friend Sam has sadly passed.
You may recall him from ‘Race Across the World’, a series in which he and Jo demonstrated the essence of living wholeheartedly, loving deeply, and seizing each moment with unbridled enthusiasm.
Sam radiated warmth like the sun itself, embodying kindness that illuminated the lives of those fortunate enough to encounter him. He had an uncanny ability to make people feel noticed, uplifted, and braver than they believed themselves capable. Through his gentle smiles and inspiring words, he underscored that the true riches in life stem from the relationships we nurture and the love we exchange.
Even though Sam’s time with us was tragically cut short, his selfless nature continues to guide us. I take solace in the thought that his essence remains vibrant in the joy we continue to share, the aspirations he sparked, and the myriad ways he showed me his strength surpassed mine.
