Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks share euphoric reaction to their first ever Podcast win at the TRIC Awards as the longtime pals pay tribute to their ‘family of listeners’

As your trusted lifestyle guide, I’m thrilled to share that my co-host, Pete Wicks, and I received our very first award for our “Staying Relevant” podcast! We can’t express enough gratitude towards our dedicated audience, whom we fondly refer to as our extended family. On Tuesday, they were by our side, cheering us on every step of the way. This victory is a testament to the bond we share and the engaging conversations we’ve had together. Thank you for being part of this exciting journey with us!

The duo was awarded the prestigious trophy at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards, a recognition that came after they had confessed they hadn’t won any awards before for their TV show, claiming it was something they’d never achieved before.

Following their win being announced, a video emerged displaying the instant when Sam exuberantly jumped onto his friend Pete, prior to them ascending the stage. They had triumphed over Begin Again with Davina McCall, Shged. Married. Annoyed, and That Peter Crouch Podcast in the competition.

Despite the unexpected victory leaving him caught off guard, Sam openly acknowledged that he hadn’t even drafted a speech, being confident they would not emerge victorious.

He mentioned that they hadn’t planned anything ahead as they’re accustomed to losing, so he’s hoping Pete will improvise for a moment!

Pete subsequently remarked: “Let me just say, it’s quite clear that we’re not the sharpest tools in the shed. However, we embarked on this journey a few years back, and today, we proudly run a production company.

Pete expressed his gratitude by saying: ‘It’s such a joy to have won something alongside my good friend. You truly make winning enjoyable, Sam, and I couldn’t be more proud of you!’

‘I’m so proud of you, we’re so lucky!’ Sam added.

It’s a joy for us to have such an incredible audience, and it feels like a dream come true to be able to produce this podcast for them.

After their talk, Dan Walker playfully presented a video clip showcasing Pete and Sam’s efforts in trying to secure the victory for their podcast.

The pair were quite optimistic about securing a victory this year, as they arrived in grand style, stepping out from a massive white luxury car reminiscent of a red carpet event.

Well, here I am, breathlessly recounting another instance where my idol, Stacey Solomon, was edged out in the race for an accolade – this time it was the coveted title of Social Media Broadcaster! Although my heart ached for her, I couldn’t help but be in awe of her grace and resilience in the face of yet another close call. It only serves to fuel my admiration for her even more!

In the same category, the television host was nominated with Eddie Hall (The Beast), Rob Beckett, and LadBaby. Ultimately, it was LadBaby who was given the recognition.

The setback occurs mere months following Stacey’s, aged 35, disheartening experience as her series, Sort Your Life Out, did not win the Factual Entertainment category at the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards.

When the star vented about the BAFTA judges in an angry online post, alleging that her team was unfairly denied the award, this action sparked criticism from fans who labeled her as ungracious in defeat.

In this year’s TRIC awards, Stacey was not chosen as the winner again, as the decision was made based on over a million public votes from Britain, selecting the nominees that had already been established.

Stepping up on stage to receive the award, it was Alex (also known as LadBaby), who was accompanied by his wife Roxanne. He started off by saying: “A huge thank you! I appreciate it.

10 years ago, we found ourselves in a challenging phase of life, grappling with financial difficulties such as an overdue mortgage, the arrival of a newborn, and only £20 per week for expenses. Starting on social media during this time significantly transformed our lives.

In a surprising turn of events, Clarkson’s Farm, fresh off its fourth season, won the award for Best Entertainment Show, beating out heavyweights such as Gavin and Stacey, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, and The Traitors.

In the recent nominations, neither Strictly Come Dancing nor Loose Women received any recognition, finding themselves among other well-known programs that were overlooked.

During the Daytime competition, A Place In The Sun emerged victorious, outperforming Escape to the Country, Richard Osman’s House of Games, and This Morning.

In a stunning turn of events, Call The Midwife emerged victorious in the category of Best Drama, outperforming heavyweights like All Creatures Great And Small, Baby Reindeer, and Bridgerton.

24 Hours In Police Custody outperformed Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams, The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, and The Repair Shop in the Factual TV genre.

In the Food category, The Great British Bake Off emerged as the audience favorite, competing against heavyweights like Great British Menu, James Martin’s Saturday Morning Show, and MasterChef.

In the category of Game Shows, nominations went to Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win, Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel, The Chase, and Lee Mack’s The 1% Club. It was Lee Mack’s The 1% Club that ultimately took home the award.

In simple terms, Six Nations Rugby was awarded the title for Best Live Sports Event, while GB News Breakfast bagged the prize in the News Category.

In a competitive contest against Dan Walker, Fiona Bruce, and Susanna Reid, Charlie Peters was awarded the title for Best News Presenter.

Among the contenders for the Radio Presenter award, Jordan North emerged as the top choice, surpassing Ally McCoist, Simon Mayo, and Vernon Kay.

As your go-to lifestyle guide, I’m excited to share my favorite radio shows that keep me entertained and informed throughout the week! On Monday through Friday, you’ll find me tuning into Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Sian Welby. During the heart of the day, Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden is my go-to. And, on Sunday mornings, I never miss Rylan on Sunday, followed by White & Jordan. These shows are a must-listen for anyone seeking a mix of fun, entertainment, and engaging conversations!

But it was Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden that won the award.

In a recent awards ceremony, Steve McFadden, known for his role as Phil Mitchell on the show “EastEnders,” was honored with the Soap Actor award. Additionally, “EastEnders” itself was recognized as Soap of the Year.

Among the competitors, he outperformed Barney Walsh (known for his role as Cam Mickelthwaite on Casualty), Beth Cordingly (actress playing Ruby Fox-Milligan in Emmerdale) and Jack P Shepherd (David Platt’s portrayer on Coronation Street.

Or, more concisely:

He surpassed Barney Walsh, Beth Cordingly, and Jack P Shepherd, each famous for their roles in Casualty, Emmerdale, and Coronation Street respectively.

The Television Host edged out Bradley Walsh, Alison Hammond, Ant and Dec, and Martin Lewis to secure the top spot.

At London’s Grosvenor House, the venue sparkled with stars as Dan Walker, TRIC President, graciously hosted an event that drew nearly a thousand attendees. The night was capped off by a stunning live performance from Magic Radio’s artist, Lemar.
