Since Grey’s Anatomy made its debut in 2005, numerous characters have entered and departed, yet none have left a mark as profound as Sandra Oh’s character, Cristina Yang.
From its debut to its 10th season in 2014, Cristina, a cardiothoracic surgical fellow, played a crucial role on the show, contributing to many of its most impactful storylines. Her exit sparked curiosity among fans about potential future appearances.
It seems unlikely that Cristina will make a return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital anytime soon, as the actress who plays her has stated clearly that she won’t be coming back, even though she’s been touched by the persistent requests from fans.
10 years after ending her role on the show, the Killing Eve star expressed during an interview with Deadline a heartfelt gratitude towards those who value Cristina.
When I realized how deeply the fans desired it, my response was, ‘Wow, they truly, genuinely, passionately want this.’ It was at that moment that I began to consider the possibility more seriously.
However, if those quotes might suggest that Oh is pondering a comeback, her subsequent statements seemed to diminish such an idea.
She expressed that for authenticity towards those appreciating her work, it’s crucial to remain true to oneself. However, in her current state, she doesn’t feel that way.

After Oh departed from the program, her main role became portraying the lead character over four seasons in Killing Eve. Additionally, she has appeared in other productions such as The Chair, The Sympathizer, and the upcoming movie Quiz Lady in 2023.
Apart from her other work, she has put in significant effort as a voice artist, taking on roles like She-Ra, the characters from The Princesses of Power, Invincible, Raya from Raya and the Last Dragon, and Mei Lee in Turning Red.
I’m excited to share that Grey’s Anatomy has just wrapped up its 21st season and is gearing up for a 22nd! Even though my character, Meredith Grey, isn’t always the focal point as much as before, I’m still here and ready for another round. Let’s see what the new season brings!
