In their brief stay at Elbaf, the Straw Hats have sparked a conflict, as the Holy Knights take the Giants by surprise. These individuals were initially introduced in One Piece Chapter 1054 during discussions between Akainu and the Gorosei regarding the tumultuous Reverie Arc. Akainu hinted that the Holy Knights intervened following an assassination attempt on Saint Charlos and allegations against Saint Mjosgard for allowing the attacker to escape. Although Chapter 1054 provided minimal details about the Holy Knights, they were again referenced in Chapter 1083 when Sabo rejoined the Revolutionary Army and shared his experiences with Dragon and Ivankov. Dragon suggested that the true war against the World Government would commence once the Holy Knights are incapacitated.
In Chapter 1086, Garling’s execution of another Celestial Dragon reveals more about the powerful Holy Knights, their social status, and their role as the main antagonists in the Elbaf Arc. We are getting a deeper insight into the Holy Knights now, and four new members have been introduced. The upcoming battle in Elbaf promises to be the toughest challenge yet for our crew. While we can’t predict who from the Holy Knights will engage with the crew members, it looks like Eiichiro Oda has some plans specifically for Sanji.
One Piece’s Sommers Will Be a Worthy Opponent for Sanji
Saint Sommers hails from the same lineage as Saint Ju Peter and appears in Chapter 1140 without prior warning, summoned to Elbaf. In Chapter 1143, he expounds his unique perspective on love, viewing it as something painful yet deeply felt, akin to grasping someone tightly. Despite the pain, he perceives genuine “emotion” in taking a life. For a figure of power like Sommers, nothing stimulates him more than “death induced by love.
Sommers possesses the potency of a Thorn-Thorn Fruit, enabling him to generate thorny barriers not just around himself, but also others and objects within his vicinity. Any attempt to physically interact with someone ensnared by Sommers’ thorns will result in harm. The danger intensifies when these thorns are seemingly intangible, making it simpler for individuals to unwittingly step into Sommers’ trap. Moreover, this invisibility serves to mask the true essence of his devil fruit. In stark contrast to Sanji, who embodies the concepts of love and compassion within One Piece, Sommers’ interpretation of love is rooted in inflicting pain on others based on their emotional connections.
Sommers’ powers pose a tricky and formidable challenge for Sanji, who typically relies on straightforward fighting. Although Sanji possesses strong Haki and an exoskeleton, it remains uncertain just how powerful Sommers is in close combat. However, Sanji has the potential advantage of his fire abilities, which could potentially burn Sommers’ vines. Furthermore, Sanji boasts one of the best Observation Haki in the series, which might help him locate the vines.
Sanji and His Theme of Love in One Piece
From my perspective as an ardent fan, when it comes to embodying the essence of love in the captivating world of One Piece, no one does it quite like Sanji. His depiction as the epitome of kindness and his steadfast chivalry starkly contrasts with Sommers’. Sanji’s devotion to women paints a romanticized picture of love, while his unwavering loyalty and care for Luffy and the Straw Hats symbolize a deep bond rooted in friendship and brotherhood.
What makes this intriguing is not just their physical battles, but the impending clash of ideals as they both possess radically different perspectives on love. Sanji’s selflessness, demonstrated by his readiness to sacrifice himself for those dear to him, sets him apart from Sommers in a unique way.
Contrasting Sanji, it seems the antagonist’s affection leans towards a controlling and painful nature. The more intense feelings someone holds for One Piece’s targets, the more they may suffer. For now, it’s just speculation whether the two will clash, but we never know what creator Oda might unveil next. Given the influx of Holy Knights assaulting the island, the crew will undoubtedly face some tough adversaries. As per custom, we can anticipate at least Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji engaging in thrilling one-on-one battles with the villains. In these encounters, each pirate will push beyond their limits, growing stronger than ever before.
