Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola on their chemistry and getting Strictly-fied

As a follower, I can’t help but be thrilled by the delightful pairing of Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing competition. Having been an ardent fan of the show for years, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to share my enthusiasm with these two vibrant personalities.

Last year, I was fortunate enough to claim the coveted Glitterball trophy as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing. Now, I’m excited to return to the dance floor for another season, this time partnered with the hilarious Sarah Hadland – best known for her role in Miranda. Together, we aim to create some memorable moments and perhaps even lift the trophy once more!

But why are they already talking so much about dessert?

Sarah, did you always want to have Vito as your partner?

Sarah: The contestants have a gathering where they demonstrate some dance moves, and I had someone in mind that I thought I’d prefer, but when I started dancing with Vito, I felt an immediate connection and exclaimed, “He’s the one! If it’s not him, I’m unsure what my next move will be.

Did you feel that same chemistry, Vito?

Vito: Indeed, I sensed that connection immediately when we first crossed paths. Occasionally, others tell me, “Vito, you come on a bit strong.

Sarah: I hear this often: “Calm yourself.” On sets, others have even remarked, “Someone stop giving Sarah Hadland coffee! No more!” (This implies that I am easily excitable or sensitive to caffeine.)

Vito: Currently, we’re overflowing with enthusiasm, and that’s fantastic! The key is to find the ideal outlet for all this energy. I tend to go with the flow rather than making plans, yet somehow, we’ll manage to make it happen in the end.

What else do you have in common?

Vito: We both love animals.

Sarah: I can’t get enough of Percy, my chubby ginger tabby cat! Every week, he’ll sport a modified version of our costume on social media. Believe me, he doesn’t shy away from hats or bandanas. In fact, we even put him in a doll’s Frozen dress once! I was thinking about reaching out to Vicky Gill, the costume designer from Strictly Come Dancing, to see if she could create something special for Percy too. I have a feeling that with his support, we’ll go pretty far.

Vito: We should ask if we can use Percy in our choreography and bring him on to the Strictly floor.

Sarah: It’s been our intention to incorporate animals into our daily activities. I was considering taking charge of a sheep, lamb, or even a small pig. Why haven’t we ever witnessed this? Could we perhaps have a guinea pig in my hands for a spin before passing it along to Vito? There’d be no harm intended in this interaction.

Vito: I could find a way to choreograph it.

Sarah: Vito and I both love food as well. He’s bringing the food at lunchtime.

Vito: I’ll tailor my dish based on the week or the type of dance we perform. We have all the necessary ingredients, and now it’s about blending them harmoniously to create a meal… a dance.

What dish would you be?

Sarah: Are we thinking dessert? Are we thinking tiramisu?

Vito: Are we, indeed, Team Tiramisu! You might wonder why? Well, the term “tiramisu” in Italian translates to “pick me up”. So, we’re here to give you a boost, just like this delicious dessert does!

Sarah: Of course, because it’s got coffee in it! Team Tiramisarah!

Have you enjoyed getting Strictly-fied?

Sarah: Incredible! When I first saw my costume, it was just three pieces of purple Lycra fabric held together with six safety pins. I thought to myself, “Wow, this is quite simple. How will they make it more extravagant?

Upon trying on the gown, I spun around to catch a glimpse in the mirror, and it was quite a striking sight that took me by surprise. It left me utterly stunned. The emotions overwhelmed me, and I couldn’t help but shed tears of joy. Never before had I adorned something so stunningly beautiful. Lisa Armstrong skillfully applied my makeup, while Lisa Davey expertly styled my hair.

Instead of showering me with wheelbarrows full of glitter, followed by Vito swiftly spinning me, let’s say that I want to be covered in a heap of sparkling glitter and then have Vito whirl me around. On the first day, I felt dizzy due to motion sickness.

Why do Strictly and why now?

Sarah: For years, I’ve been deeply fond of this particular show. Yet, there was a part of me that was apprehensive about engaging in something I adore so much. It eventually reached a point where numerous individuals urged me, “Why aren’t you doing this? We’re confident you’ll enjoy it,” which prompted me to take the plunge.

At the launch event, my mother attended and expressed that it was her most exceptional night ever. While my mother can be quite discerning, regarding Vito, she exclaimed, “He’s not just good-looking; he has an outstanding physique too. He is truly a delightful young man.” She seemed slightly agitated about the situation!

Strictly Come Dancing continues at 7pm this Saturday on BBC One and iPlayer.
