Right now, horror enthusiasts are in for a treat as several spine-tingling movies from the ’90s are making a comeback to the silver screen. Two highly anticipated ones are “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “Scream”, both of which featured Sarah Michelle Gellar, a prominent actress of that era. Interestingly, her character met an untimely end in both series. Even though she won’t be reprising her role in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” following a failed attempt to return, she jokingly expresses optimism about joining the ranks of other deceased characters from the “Scream” franchise.
Despite ongoing speculation about the plot of “Scream 7,” Sarah Michelle Gellar is hopeful for a return to the world of Ghostface. During a recent event for the 2025 movie schedule’s “Pretty Hurts,” Gellar, aged 48, expressed her desire when asked about another ’90s show revival, mistaking it for “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” She told ET that she attempted to resurrect her character from the “Scream” sequel as a college-aged sorority girl, but the effort was unsuccessful.
No, I’m not in Scream, I tried to get in Scream, but nobody wanted me.
It was intriguing to imagine Sarah Michelle Gellar returning to play her role from Scream 2 in later installments of the franchise, given her small part in that movie. Unfortunately, it seems like her character Cici won’t make a comeback for Scream 7.
For several years now, one of the top horror series has ventured into fresh territories following the departures of Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, and Christopher Landon (the previous director). This change brought back original cast members like Neve Campbell, among others, which hinted to the actress from “Scooby-Doo” that it was worth trying. She revealed that she kept expecting a call, but it never came: instead, the opportunity seemed to have passed her by.
They’re bringing everybody back. I kept thinking I would get a call. I didn’t get a call.
It’s quite exciting to catch wind of the production details and anticipate what lies ahead for audiences as they head to cinemas for the forthcoming Scream movie. With recognizable characters and daring assertions about 7’s Ghostface, it appears that the 2026 film will be a significant installment in the series.
Even as the seventh movie title mysteriously advanced, it left several of us puzzled, including the actress from “Ready or Not 2”. She humorously expressed her surprise that some deceased high-ranking characters were resurrected for the cast, while she was not. Gellar ended by expressing her willingness to revisit the Woodsboro world publicly.
Many characters who perished throughout the Scream film series have returned to life. Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard, I’m hinting at, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a call.
As a die-hard fan of the Scream franchise, I can’t help but ponder: whereabouts might we find the beloved character of Cici Cooper, portrayed by the late, great Tracy Middendorf? With the latest installment pushing the boundaries of horror movie conventions, couldn’t there be a niche for her return to Sydney Prescott’s world? Just a small suggestion, but I believe that even in the aftermath, there remains ample opportunity for Cici Cooper’s storyline to continue.
As a movie enthusiast, I find myself pondering over an intriguing query: How might the deceased characters find their way into ‘Scream 7’ when it appears they’ve met their demise? The answer, for now, remains elusive. However, there’s a glimmer of hope among us, sparked by Neve Campbell’s recent announcement. Until that mysterious phone call from the production team comes her way, we can revisit and savor her captivating arc in the earlier ‘Scream’ movies.
