Saros Developer Housemarque is “Fully Focused on Single Player and Premium” Titles

After Sony decided to halt their live service projects and face challenges with games like Fairgame$ and Marathon, the developers of Returnal, Housemarque, have emphasized that they will continue to focus on “single-player and premium” game development.

During their 30th-anniversary celebration, studio head Ilari Kuittinen expressed to Eurogamer that their approach is to create games as a unique experience for specific periods in one’s life. He likened these experiences to watching movies or TV series, which are enjoyed during certain phases of life. In his opinion, this allows players the freedom not to invest all their spare time into their games.

As a gamer, I can tell you that playing this game offers a one-of-a-kind adventure. It leaves an impact on you that lingers long after you’ve finished. You might find yourself drawn back to it at times, but it doesn’t consume you for the entirety of your gaming journey.

Housemarque is devoting all its efforts towards crafting single-player and premium quality titles, with the upcoming game “Saros” being a part of this focus. Kuittinen aspires to sustain the studio’s production of exceptional games for another three decades. In essence, he emphasizes the importance of consistently producing unique and memorable games.

Mikael Haveri, the brand director, stated, “Our strength lies in our most recent game. It’s not just a privilege; it’s a duty on us to continue advancing the medium, demonstrating our capabilities, improving our gameplay, storytelling, and technology, and growing continuously. For the next three decades, our focus should be on creating even better games.

At present, Saros is being worked on for PS5, featuring Rahul Kohli portraying Arjun Devraj. He embarks on a journey to Carcosa, only to find himself stuck in a loop similar to Returnal. Following each demise, he revives on the planet, needing to confront its altered landscapes. Before delving into the towering figure with multiple arms and the solar eclipse, let’s discuss these intriguing elements of Saros.

In simpler terms, Arjun is on a quest to find someone, and as he collects items along the way, he’ll be able to make lasting improvements in his abilities across different playthroughs, making him stronger. Over the course of his journey, both his weapons and suits will develop, offering new possibilities for gameplay.

2026 sees the debut of Saros, with a detailed gameplay unveiling scheduled for later in the year. Keep an eye out for further updates until that time.
