As a dedicated fan of historical dramas, I am thrilled about the upcoming season 2 of SAS Rogue Heroes. The introduction of Bill Stirling, played by Gwilym Lee, promises an intriguing twist to the narrative. His tense encounter with Jack O’Connell’s Paddy Mayne in a jail cell is a testament to the high-stakes nature of the series.
In the video clip from season 2 that you see here, we are introduced, and it’s Jack O’Connell as Paddy Mayne who meets Bill Stirling, the sibling of Connor Swindells’s character David.
In the movie, Gwilym Lee portrays Bill. A scene shows him walking towards, and subsequently engaging in an argumentative encounter with Paddy, who is confined within a prison cell.
Bill shares David’s greetings from the prisoner-of-war camp where he currently resides, then confides in Paddy that the General Headquarters (GHQ) intends to dissolve the Special Air Service (SAS) and return the soldiers to their initial military units.
Bill intends to prevent it from occurring, and asks Paddy for assistance, as he has just two days to carry out the task.
In Season 2 of SAS Rogue Heroes, Bill’s inclusion isn’t the sole significant alteration – the series has also relocated its setting. Instead of remaining in Cairo, it now chronicles the SAS as they transition and travel to Italy, aiming to infiltrate the country with the ultimate goal of securing Europe.
Alongside O’Connell and Lee, we have some familiar faces reprising their roles like Swindells, Sofia Boutella, and Dominic West. New to the cast are Con O’Neill, Jack Barton, and Mark Rowley.
At a Q&A session for the upcoming season, it was disclosed by Swindells that his character wasn’t initially planned to appear in season 2, but he happily returned, expressing his joy with: “I couldn’t have been more thrilled to return.
Initially, I was intended to work on just one season. So, when Steven Knight presented episode 1, and here I was, on page 59, I received a call from the amazing Stephen Smallwood (producer) asking about my summer plans. I was overjoyed at the prospect.
“We follow David through, and his frustration and his need for attention.”
I’m thrilled to share that I can’t wait for you all as we countdown to the New Year! That’s because SAS Rogue Heroes season 2 will be airing live on BBC One at 9pm, right on New Year’s Day. And if you haven’t had a chance to catch up with the first season, fear not! You can stream it now on BBC iPlayer. Happy streaming and happy New Year!
